Which Applecare do I need?

After running my MBP 15" C2D for the last week I decided to pair it with a 23" Apple Cinema display that I found locally for $650 (not bad!). Turns out the display was purchased a year ago, almost to the day. According to the Apple warranty search, the display was purchased on March 1, 2006. That gives me approximately 1 day to find some cheap Applecare coverage.

Now - here's what I'm wondering: "officially" Apple claim that you can pair a display with a new Macbook Pro if they were purchased together. Of course, these weren't purchased together - but in practice is it possible to attach a display to a new MBP Applecare agreement? Does Apple actually check the invoices to see if they were purchased together?

Does anyone happen to know the process of how Applecare registration works?

I'd obviously prefer to pair these together instead of purchasing separate Applecare warranties (should save me something in the order of $100+) - so I'd really appreciate some advice!

" ... is it possible to attach a display to a new MBP Applecare agreement ..." No, it's not.

" ... Does Apple actually check the invoices to see if they were purchased together? ..." Yes, they do.

And it's not "invoices", it's "invoice". You can only cover both if they both appear on the very same invoice. You might (emphasis on "might") be able to beg you way if you have the original invoices and they were purchased on the very same day from the very same vendor. Different days? Not a chance.

Similarly, some other equipment is automatically covered if you purchase them on the same invoice (Airport, KB + Mouse with Mac MIni, etc).

An AirPort or keyboard does not need to be purchased on the same invoice - it only needs to be used with a covered system.

thank you for the terse yet informative response. I'll go ahead and buy a separate Applecare for this display and worry about the MBP later.

Considering AppleCare is only $129 for the Cinema Display, it's pretty cheap for another 2 full years of coverage, especially since you didn't even pay retail for the display to begin with.

Agreed. And I can get it for $103 from the apple student store - so that helps.

UPDATE: Transferred registration of the display to my name yesterday, and set up Applecare. Considering that it only cost me $100, I consider it a steal. These monitors ain't cheap!
