The iPod seems to be everywhere. Imagine what will happen when the iTMS hits other geographical areas. Wow! When I think of music, I think of iPod. When I think of iPod, I think of Apple + iPod + bluetooth = wireless headphones. Now that would be my next big thing. wireless listening pleasure!
What would be your next big thing?
An Internet radio broadcast portable transister look 50's style
radio that can fit in my shirt pocket.
That'd be nice.

When you think about it...you may have 1000...2000...3000 songs in your collection...basically all the stuff you like. What's the real diff between that and a radio station that plays the stuff you like?
Sure, you get the interruptions such as the ads, news, weather and sports. But, you also get the chance to broaden your musical repertoire. And it's all relatively cheap.
With an iPod, you get the songs that you like (order doesn't count unless you're the sort of loser who plans that all out among your 1000+ songs) with no interruptions.
I guess it's just the way you look at it...radio can be seen as a more open medium while an iPod means that you stay enclosed within your own little world.

I see radio a boring. I've never, ever heard a station consistently play songs that I like, or that has allowed me to discover cool music regularily. The iPod with iTMS... 500,000 songs and growing in all kinds of genres and categories. Lists of what other people bought, what other musicians listen too, essential lists for various categories. I find it the best way to branch out and find good music in other categories.
If only in Canada.

College Radio.
That is one place that helped me stretch out - although I was hella curious from a young age. But they have slick programming here - esp @ CLKN over @ Ryerson.
Commercial radio is not the best for anything but getting the hits. There's a need for it to be out there, just like there's a need for more discerning consumers who want Macs.
Give college a try. Once you get a hand of their schedule, you'll be sure ot find something you dig.
H!

Yes, wireless listening pleasure could = radio. But then again it could = listening to music at a concert, or listening to a home hifi, or a boom box, or... But in this case it is refering to the iPod and the hopes that apple will extend bluetooth tech to bring us wireless headphones for the little gem. The worlds most loved portable music player without wires. This would be my next big thing. What about yours?
Hey just a thought! Since apple has made such a hit with the iPod, maybe M$ will try and follow with a bluetooth radio. Think about it. They could probably make it small enough to fit in your little red wagon so that you could lug it around to all the parties you attend with that crowd of ever shrinking cool people. But that would be for another thread labled "The next biggest thing!"
Just have to say that college radio offers some of the best programming out there. You want fresh ideas and sounds? Check it out. Yes, it's by its nature somewhat uneven, but that's part of its charm. Just do a little picking and choosing - poke through the scheduling to find stuff you like. Ignore the amateur and/or self-indulgent DJs - there's great stuff abounding, including dedicated veteran DJs who have been doing music shows for years and years and really know their stuff.
When I'm painting in the studio the radio is on one of three stations - CIUT, CKLN, or the CBC - two of those stations offering great indie stuff that will never make it to the MOR fodder-pushers that make up most FM and AM fare. Another great one is in Guelph, CFRU.
