no more 'gonna'; i did!

Heh, this is the first-ever post from my first-ever Mac! I just bit the bullet and bought an iMac (17" 2.0GHz core 2 duo) and I love it. Some first impressions:

The "unpacking ceremony" was great, I do appreciate the care and detail Apple takes on their packaging.

I was impressed that the power cord didn't require a brick (somehow I was expecting an external adapter)

I was impressed how quickly the setup/boot process was/is.

As a longtime Windows user (I started my professional life a an NT 4.0 admin waaay back) I find the install process a little 'wierd', but I'm sure I'll get used to it! (I had to get firefox and thunderbird going.)

So just a quick thanks to everyone who answered my questions, and Im really looking forward to using this sweet new system.

I envy you your "new switcher" joy I had the same experience a year and a half ago and wish I could have it again. I bought a new Macbook three months ago, but I guess you can never recapture the euphoria of your first eh

Enjoy the feeling and enjoy your Mac. Luckily one never loses the pleasure of working on it, however long you have had it

Cheers

Hi,

This should help you understand the install process. It is a bit wierd, isn't it.

Enjoy and handle with care. As mentioned, second monitors on the iMacs are nice, I use an additional 17" LCD with mine.

Thanks everyone!
mr.steevo thanks for those links, they will definitely provide the info that I need. So far I seem to have been able to get rid of the M$ Office Test Drive and iWork '06 Demos, since I'll never use those.

As for the second monitor, I have a 15" LCD (Samsung) that'll do 1024x768. While not ideal, this is going to be my secondary monitor until I can afford something bigger. I'm not knocking the 17" screen on the iMac, the resolution of 1440x900 is a nice step up for me, not to mention the clarity/brightness

Yes the "unpacking ceremony" is a delight, then you feast your eyes upon the elegant physical design, next you get to perform the easiest OS install ever and use the most fluid OS in the world. AH the ecstasy! -)

On a serious note Welcome, I believe this will be your most satisfying computing experience ever. Windows actually works pretty well under BootCamp as well, in case you get homesick.
