Best iBook

I'm shopping around for a used iBook for my GF. Can anyone recommend a model? The fastest one would be obvious but as with all Macs, some models are better than others.

Thanks!

Nice... I just started looking around today for an iBook for my little sister. She has a PC and is selling it. Yes... another person switched!

I have found that the 12" 1.07, 1.2 & 1.33Ghz models are all solid and reliable, as well as being smaller and lighter than the 14".

I recommend an upgraded 12'' iBook G4 800 Mhz...wow. I just happen to be selling one of those, by coincidence.

I always prefered a 14" when it comes to portables, because your

stuck with the display; you can't add a bigger monitor later.
The 12" are cute but hard on the eyes after a few hours.

The iBook G4 is a big leap better than the iBook G3
Screen size vs. carrying size is a personal preference thing.
Any iBook has only one RAM socket, the G3s are limited to a 512 Mb PC133 chip but the G4s can take a 1 Gb DDR 266/333 MHz chip. More RAM is better.

My daughter has the 12" 1.33 with 1.5GB RAM. Very nice in terms of weight and ability (the iBook, not the kid...she's more than nice!). At her desk she spans to another monitor using Screen Spanning Doctor. When in class for an hour or two the screen is fine for her.

She informed me today that she saw a guy with the black MacBook and could I please get one of those for her (the MB, not the guy...at least I think that's what she meant..)

The 14" displays look like crap, and the 14" iBooks are heavy as hell!

After using my 19" samsung lcd and then going to my iBook I want to cry. It looks like its running at a lower resolution than it should be.

Get a 12" iBook, and at least an iBook g4. Do not but a g3 iBook for ANY reason!

Interesting discussion. I'm looking for a used iBook as well.

My sister emailed me last night asking if a 15" Gateway laptop that she spied at BestBuy would do for Mom (in a nursing home) to play her slot machine games on.

YIKES - haven't I taught these people anything.

Mom had a 14" iBook before she went into the nursing home, but she's worried that it will get legs in there, so she's looking for something cheap so if it does walk away, it won't be such a loss.

So, if you have an old iBook that still works good enough to play low-demand games, PM me please.

Margaret
