Shouldn't there be a commemorative computer to mark the occasion or something? We'll see how this day progresses, but I was kinda expecting an announcement YESTERDAY (last business day before The Big Day).
Any opinions on this? In a related matter, are not the i/eMacs desperately overdue for speed-bumps or even redesigns? God, the eMacs STILL do not have USB 2!

I think they are going to drop the bomb the same way they did it 20 years ago. If there is going to be any kind of major announcement it will be superbowl sunday!

My guess is Tuesday will be the big event. But you would have thought Apple would have put more about the 20th Anniversary on their site - the only thing on their site about the 20th Anniversary is the TV ad. MacCentral has more 20th Anniversary info than the Apple page.
Sorry guys, I miss the significance of Tuesday. Enlghten me.
BTW, Pepsi is "The Official Soft Drink of The Superbowl" http://www.superbowl.com/ This, along with the "kickoff" of the iTunes promo, should have Apple logos and iTunes promos a'flyin!

I was thinking that a 20th Century pivoting iMac would be nice,
Anyone remember those old Pivoting monitors?
It would be great to a have a pivoting iMac, Considering how
friggin big the iMac is getting.

All of Apple's current G4 products are maxed at 1.25GHz: iMac with a single 1.25GHz G4, G4 Powrermacs with dual 1.25GHz G4. Meanwhile, bth Powerlogix and Giga Designs are shipping G4 processor upgrades up to 1.4GHz and even higher. It seems that Motorola has halted at around 1.4, and who knows if there's any more upgradability left inthe G4. And yet, the G5 is a hot puppy... and a brand new puppy. Do we really think a G5 iMac is in the cards, soon? I don't, but SOMETHING'S gotta give soon with those old creaky G4 clockspeeds!
I have someone who is JUST DIEING to get into iLife with their first computer. They're looking at a Superdrive eMac... but I feel hesitant at recomending a SINGLE 1GHz processor -- AND it doesn;t have USB II!!
So, we're holding off to give Apple some time to come out with a 20th Anniversary "something" with a speed bump. If nothing happens, maybe we'll keep our eyes open on the used market?

Actually, they're maxed out at 1.33 Ghz. Which isn't a bad thing, a 1Ghz G4 is more than enough for most peoples needs, even with iLife '04; Just stock up on RAM.

Man, a single 1 Ghz is enough. Unless of course, your friend is planning on making a movie of Oscar calibre, in which case you probably don't want to look at an eMac anyway.
And about USB2, I wouldn't worry about it so much, FireWire is better in pretty much every sense of the word.

Apple did release a dual 1.42 G4 PowerMac MDD before the G5 was launched. Also, 1GHz G4 is dog-slow in my opinion. I'm crawling along at 867, and have performance overhead issues with iDVD, iMovie, GarageBand, and especially games. Buying a G4-anything at this point in time is, IMHO, a mistake.
