i'm guessing the education store promotion is not valid with the 80gb ipod. anyone know if this is the case???

Well, if you try adding something (MacBook, etc...) to your cart at the Educational store, it still tries to sell you the old iPod (Shuffle, Nano, Video) not the new stuff.

The only way you can get the new one maybe... is if they haven't updated the store with that info yet... but I doubt they will.

i didn't even see the option to buy the 60gb model (but i didn't try adding the macbook to my cart, either!).

Anytime Apple tells students "Hurry, offer ends Sept. 16," it's a clear indication that new iPods are on their way to replace old nanos/hd-based iPods.

So to answer your question, no, the education store promotion does not apply to the new 80gb iPod. Apple wants to literally give away the old nanos and give additional discount for 60gb iPods to clear their stock.
