Getting ready to erase & install (Firefox bookmarks query)
Hi y'all,
I'm getting myself prepared for an Erase & Install. I just had a question for you. I use Firefox for my internet. I presently have tons of bookmarks. I want to know how I can preserve these bookmarks before erasing everything.
I know if I do an Erase & Install, I will have to re-apply Firefox, since it doesnt come with OS X. I'm assuming that all of my bookmarks will be erased. Am I correct with this assumption?
If so, what is the best and most efficent way to save my bookmarks, besides emailing the links of all my favourite websites to myself...
I can't. I have no choice but to do an erase and install (long-story)!! Hence, is there any way I can preserve these bookmarks...besides the long way , which is to cut and paste my url, and email it to myself!!??!?
Back up you entire profile- ~/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/XXXXX
Then after you reinstall, run firefox, then go to the same directory, delete the new profile and drop the old one in there.
Alternate route - install Google Browser Sync (http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/) and sync up with the Google server. Do the same after reinstall and download your bookmarks back.
1) go in to "Manage bookmarks", Select All and then Export them. You'll end up with one HTML file that you can then Email to yourself.
2) FF stores it's settings, bookmarks, etc. in the Library/Application Support/Firefox folder. Back that up.
I don't know what else you have on your system, but i'd STRONGLY recommend that you make a backup of all of your home folder & the main system library folder. At very least, back up the 2 Library folders.
