Disk Warrior - help

Hi
I'll probably sound like a total moron with this but {shrug}

I just bought and downloaded disk warrior from the alsoft site. The cd won't get here for a couple of weeks, so I want to burn the downloaded version onto a cd and I'm having a bitch of a time doing it. I got to the point where it appeared to be copying to the cd, but when I tried to use the cd I get an error message that it was copied incorrectly.

I'm at a loss here. Can anyone give me a really simple (I mean idiot-proof) step by step description of what I should do, starting with downloading from alsoft?

(My Mac = G5, 80gb hd, 2gb ram)

thanks to anyone who can help me out!

I don't think you can drag and drop because of hidden files which are not copied. I believe you have to make a disk image and burn that on to the CD.

IIRC - you need the DiskWarrior cd to make a new cd.

If you have a bootable back up/clone on an external HD, you can install DW on your HD, back up to your ext. drive and then boot from your external to repair the directories on your internal HD.

thanks all

Umm no external hard drive, this is just a runofthemill little g5 just like it was out of the box (except for the extra ram)

I uninstalled it and got alsoft to email me another software package, but same thing.
I am starting to think I just wasted $100.

Since you say you "downloaded" disk warrior you must have a file somewhere you are trying to burn onto a CD. Do you know what the file extension is?

If you want to find out what the file extension of your file is, single click it and hit command I on your keyboard to have a pop up of the file's info. The file extension consists of three letters after the period in the file name and can be found under the "name and extension" item in the information pop up.

If it's an *.iso file you can burn it with disk utility (found in your applications/utilities folder) but if it's a *.bin file you might need toast to burn it.

Give us the file extension so we know where your coming from.

DW is an excellent utility and will come in handy down the road...I do not think you wasted your money.

As for a external drive, I would suggest you purchase one when funds permit and backup your data...

i've been emailing the DW people for months now asking when their sfw. will go UB, but all I keep getting back from them is "soon"

ah, the arrogance of a successful product...

The Disc Warrior application requires the creation of a "bootable CD" which contains OS X. The application you download doesn't contain this this so you have to create the bootalbe CD. I'm not sure if the app does this for you but there should be instructions how to do it with the documentation.
