I recently had to take my PB in for repairs and had to rent a portable for a week. The fine folks at Carbon informed me that I should call Apple Canada to see if they would cover the rental costs. So, I called Apple Customer Service and informed them that I could not be without a computer seeing I needed it for work. They agreed to pay for the rental costs. I sent in the receipt via fax and they are reimbursing me for the rental costs (up to $300.00 max.). I think they decide this is on a case by case basis but I made sure to call Apple and speak with CS rep to make sure they would cover it. Should be receiving a cheque ina few weeks.
Depends on who you get on the phone. They used to offer this to just about anyone. I just had a customer that had a MB with a defective screen last week. He called once and was told they would offer the $300 rental credit. He said he would call back if he needed to take advantage of it. When he called back to get the info we needed to proceed, the person he talked to said they wouldn't give it to him. He asked for a manager and explained that he was already offered the rental by someone else he was told that the rental credit is "an option to consider".
I agree, it really depends who you get on the phone but I did ask them to make sure that the request for a credit was added to my file notes. Not sure if that helped my cause or not...
Why is there so much inconsistency at Applecare service? I've been reading stories like this for years now. One person gets service that is above average, and the next gets nothing more than basic service. What's the deal?
It looks like our MacBook will be int the shop for awhile. My wife needs to write a paper. Does Apple provide a free rental in this case?
Its specified in the ApplCare terms and conditions that they won't provide not pay for rentals, or for loss of business, or incidental and consequential damages etc.
