Well, it's $129.99 - 40 MIR - 40 Apple MIR. Cheap, but I hate rebates. I think I'd do one, but not two.

The Apple MIR is only applicable if you are buying .Mac with a qualifying Mac CPU.

See details here.

You can't use both rebates. Only one or the other. They both require you sending in the UPC label from the box.

The Apple rebate requires the purchase of an Apple machine on the same receipt as the purchase of .Mac.

The compusmart rebate can be used with a standalone purchase of .Mac.

The Compusmart advert claiming $49.99 is falsely advertised.

Either way the cheapest you can get it for is $89.99

Is that your personal experience, or are you guessing?

I have bought a number of things from CS with double rebates - they accept a photocopy of the UPC label for the CS rebate, and they print out multiple copies of the till tape, along with photocopies of the rebate claim forms, for each rebate you are entitled to. I have never had them dishonour a rebate.

If'n you don't know, don't call "false advertising", mate.

If you read the terms of both the rebates you will see what I mean.

Even if Compusmart accepts a photocopy of the UPC for their own rabate; for the Apple mfr's rebate to be effective you still need to purchase an Apple cpu product on the same receipt (as per the terms of the Apple rebate).

It doesn't state that anywhere on the compusmart flyer that an Apple computer must be purchased for the mfr's rebate to be effective.

So if 'Johnny Consumer' reads the Compusmart flyer he can only assume that all you need to do is fill out two seperate $40 rebates. In reality you need to shell out at least $700 (currently the cheapest non EDU Mac available) to get the $49.99 price for .Mac

By definition that is false and misleading advertising. Do your research CanadaRAM.

Unfortunately this is far too prevalent in the retail industry, our law firm deals with large cases of retail misrepresentation far too often. In the end the consumer is the one that gets screwed out of $40. That's not a small sum for lot of people especially students. Needless to say the onus is on Compusmart.

I just sent in a complaint to CompuSmart. We'll see what their response is.
