Just inputed my census informtion and it was accepted .
A test last week showed Safari not acceptable and Java not to specs
I updated Java with system updater in the mean time so I guess that helped
Thank heaven that I got the short form ....My mother in Law who is 86 got the full version and she has severe vision problems
i just used Safari to do the census with no problems. In fact Firefox 1.5.0.3 did not work at the Census website even though it said that it is officially supported.
Everyone should fill out their census forms. It literally took me 5 minutes.
I had issue with Firefox 1.5.0.2 . I'm assuming that the Census website gets confused by the header of the the Mac version of Firefox. Safari worked like a charm [already had the latest updates]. I am very happy to see that alternative browsers are supported.

Do I understand correctly that taking part in the census is obligatory?

Well taking it does no harm and helps the entire country in the long run. Census information is important for many reasons. It aids the government it providing services for the public and accurately budgeting for those services. That of course is only one aspect there are numerous others as well.
I just completed my 2006 Census form online. I used OS X 10.4.6 and Safari 2.0.3, so it looks like all the stuff about the Census not supporting Macs was mistaken.
