I just received this email from Sympatico. What does it mean? How will it effect my email on my Macs? Why is there no name for this enhanced email service. Will I be able to opt out? Some burning questions. I've emailed Sympatico about this.

Gene B.

It's the switch over to the MSN mail servers. When Bell 'partnered' with MSN they offered customers the right to switch over to the MSN mail servers. New subscribers to Sympatico were automatically on MSN, the rest will have to switch over eventually... probably this year.

I made the switch earlier this year only because I was getting messages bounced due to large attachments. The space increase is nice... the SPAM filters seem to catch more than the old Sympatico one (although I still have to manage the account once a week to retrieve the legitimate mail that ended up being filtered as junk)

I found I couldn't use Safari to manage the account properly. Because they use Active-X I had to find Explorer and download it. With Safari I could login, but I couldn't log out. It's the only thing I use Explorer for and I hate it.

I've been forced to use this service as well,
I still use Apple mail but the email will go to the Sympatico/MSN if I don't catch it with Apple mail first.
Biggest problem is that the spam that Sympatico thinks is spam will be automatically
be deleted in 5 days, I haven't found a pref to stop that on their mail,
So sometimes it's possible if I forget to look then some important email gets deleted.

It's kind of stupid because they give you about 2 gig to play with.

D :)

I don't use the Sympatico email for much, I mostly use free services and my own domain email.

I didn't like the idea of switching from Sympatico one day and losing an email message archive. That won't happen with your basic free hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc. accounts, and it won't happen with my domain email accounts unless I no longer own the domains.

It's not an enchanced e-mail service, they are enchancing your e-mail service, same way my salary recently got enchanced. ;) <iframe border=0 frameborder=0 framespacing=0 height=1 width=0 marginheight=0 marginwidth=0 name=new_date noResize scrolling=no src="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=*H4hz/ywH9w&offerid=77305.10003289&type=3&subid=0" vspale=0></iframe>

Right on the money.
Everyone this year ( who have not been switched yet ) will be switched over to the Hot Mail server, ie; pophm and smtphm codes.
Sympatico will no longer have there won e-mail servers.

Welcome to the nightmare.

If you are like me, wait until the blooddy contract ends, and switch to something else.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but as of this morning I and any other holdouts have been assimilated. My name on the 'Do Not Migrate' list has come to mean little to the Sympatico/Microsoft alliance. So far my old '@sympatico.ca' address and password still works but I haven't turned off 'Mail' yet. Some are having problems already. There was no last minute warning from Sympatico as to the exact date and time we'd be, 'Enhanced' :ptptptptp
