The word processors I’m using on my powerbook 12” are taking up too much space with their inspectors, etc. (mainly noticed with Pages and Mellel) I want something that doesn’t intrude onto the writing page. Any suggestion for a replacement?
Have been using Nisus all day today on my 12" PB. It's great.

The reviews aren't fantastic but the link is useful as a list of software. Anyway, the word processor that does a full screen mode (all you see is what you're typing) is called Ulysses. That's all I know about it except for the fact that it looks interesting and the price is a little excessive (100 Euros).
Nisus looks nice. Compatible with Word, but how compatible? Any known issues?
I work back and forth with both WIN and Mac versions of Word and have yet to find an issue.
Jamesm,
I also use Ulysses. It is mainly (though not exclusively) aimed at writers and has wonderful features for gathering research notes etc. I do not find it suitable for 'general' word processing.

As a writer by trade, I regularly use Nisus when I simply need to crank out a note with minimal fuss. It has tables and bullets support...all the basics and a few extras, but none of the bloat that you find with Word. It also lets you open and save files in Word format, and is pretty adept at managing formatting so there aren't any unexpected changes when moving back and forth between a Mac and PC. It also has a handy Wordperfect converter built in for those rare occasions when you have to open a .wpd file.
Be sure to have a look at the support form at the Nisus website. There are plenty of examples there of people with questions and solutions to everyday usage issues. For the money, it's the best little wordprocessor out there, I think.
