my plan was when i bought my powermac was that a dual 2 would be powerful enough to hold out for a rev B or C intel powermac. macs have incredible resell value so i figured that it is a partial investment into my intel anyway since i could sell this one at a good price.
however, by the time rev B or rev C comes out, will PPC have much life left? will my mac be worthless for resell? would it be wiser to make the plunge into rev A just to get better cash for my dualcore 2 ghz?

Only you know the answer to your question. Your needs are the determining factor not what will happen when the first crop of Intel PowerMacs is available. You seem to be in panic mode.
I purposely bought a DualCore PPC PowerMac to protect my investment in software and accessory hardware. I figure I'm good for a minimum of 2years and will continue to have a serviceable machine well into the fourth year. By then it doesn't matter what the resale value will be and perhaps there may even be an upgrade path to Intel.

i'm not in panic mode...what are you talking about? i am asking a bloody question.

actually no. i don't know the answer to my question, that is why i asked, yoda. i would like to know people's opinions on what PPC resell value will be like once the whole mac fleet has shifted over to intel....i am the only one who knows that? ok.....
i don't think it is unreasonable to wonder what resell value this machine might have once intel powermacs are out. what is wrong with asking that? what is it with this forum?
anyone have any input on the actual question?

Personally, I think your Dually will have some play for the next couple of years. It's a beast, and those who need PPC applications are still going to be sucking them up. Remember, Adobe said that they're still a year away for the Intel versions of the CS Suite, we're waiting for the next release.
I don't think your machine will drop much over the next year or so.. possibly after that it may drop a little. Keep in mind, your machine will still run Classic as well, the Intel's just don't even recognize that there ever was Classic.
I'd sit tight. Just watch what your machine is going for in the market. If you think it's hitting a point where you are uncomfortable, then decide if you want to sell it then or not. Right now, I think your machine still has a great market and will for some time. However, only time will tell.
I'd say hold on to it until at least Dec. 06. I can't see PowerMacs coming out before MacWorld 07, but I could be wrong. (Number of factors for why PowerMacs are not going to be making the jump anytime soon include providing PPC platform for developers who haven't made the switch and servicing a large pro base that is likely cautious when it comes to hardware changes).
Between Dec. 06 and June 07 you'll likely see the beginining of a price decline(assuming new IntelMacs are out at MacWorld Jan. 07). By summer when WWDC hits and a Rev. B model comes out you'll likely be at the tipping point between keeping it and riding out your investment or trying to recoup some of your money. By MacWorld 08 it will make more sense to hang on to your hardware than sell it.
Well, that's my two and half cents anyway.

Lets put it this way, since like 70% or more are still using OS 9 and Quark in the industry. Your PPC will last you at least another 10 years, you will get a really good deal when you sell it those companies that finally move over to OS X whatever it will be called by then, and you can get a Rev D Intel Mac

I am amazed by people's expectations that there are some folks who have the ability to leap ahead in time, look at the state of things such as resale values, what has been invented, how a piece of hardware or software has done in the industry, etc. and come back and give a report that will be 100% accurate.
We're all in the same boat here, none of us has the ability to know what the future will bring.
For those of us who have been with Macs for a long time (I first used them in 1985 myself, then didn't touch one from 1988 until 1990, I've been pretty steady with them since 1992), I'm sure that we didn't see their 'rebirth' happen the way that it did when Mr. Jobs returned to the company. Apple in the mid to late 90's was a mess, too many product lines (can use say Performa?), apparent lack of direction etc.
Then the iMac was introduced, then the iPod but not all of us would have said without any hesitation back in 1996 that Apple would have been around, and in as good shape as they are today. When the Microsoft purchase of Apple stock was announced, many thought it was the beginning of the end.
I'm also amazed that people expect others to know what their own specific needs are. What is important to me is not going to be what is important to you 100% of the time. My needs change, I thought it was sooooo cool just to lug home a SE30 in it's bag on the subway.
I drive a Mazda Protege, it is the right car for me at this point in time. Would I love a Porsche? You bet, a Jeep or some form of SUV for those vacation times? Sure. But I have to look at all of MY needs and budget. Sure I could find a used Porsche of some sort that would cost the same as my current car but the repair bills would probably be much higher so I keep my Protege. It works for me.
Used equipment has different values for different people. Perhaps someday if I had some spare cash floating around, I'd like to find a used Cube. I really liked the machine. I'd also like to find an old IIci because that was one machine that I used the longest. But those machines have a different value for me than the average person.
I currently use a G4 PowerBook which was purchased in November. Did I groan when they announced the 'laptop whose name I hate' back in January? Yeah I did, but I wasn't rushing out to put my current laptop on the classifieds. I love my machine and it will hopefully serve me well for a couple of years. Then? Who knows???? Neither I nor anyone else will know what it's value will be until the day I decide to sell it. The PBG4 is MY machine and if I decide to sell it I will try to obtain the fairest deal for both me and the buyer.
My cousin got her first Mac just over a year ago, it was her son's hand-me-down, a G3 PowerBook. She loves it! No way that you could pry this computer out of her hands. Now I used the same model a few years back and at the time I loved it too. Now it feels awkward in my hands.
So please don't get upset because our crystal balls are all foggy. Nobody can predict 100% what the future will bring. And your idea of what something is worth then may be totally different than what mine might be. So please don't ask me to tell you what something you own will be or is worth.
Personally, I'm taking a hit on my iBook too.. only because I want a quick sale. I'm selling my iBook G4 14", 60G, 512MB, Superdrive.. for $1000. I could probably sell it for a couple of hundred more than that. But.. in reality, I would wait a while to sell it for that. On top of that, the iBooks value is really taking a hit now.
So, hopefully this week, my iBook will be gone and I'll be awaiting for my Intel iMac to arrive. It's what I want, so, I'm willing to take that little hit to get it.
