Xbrite Technology........why not put it on the MBP's?
I'm currently using an Acer Aspire laptop right now to hold me off until I get my Macbook Pro. The machine I'm using right now carries a 1.5 Centrino processor, 512mb ram, 60gb HD, etc. My fav feature of this laptop is the glossy screen it has (I think this is called Xbrite or something like that?). Why don't they make the screens on the Macbook Pro's glossy? It definitely makes a nice picture when watching a dvd on here. Isn't it just a piece of shiny plastic overtop the lcd? It probably wouldn't cost apple a whole lot to put this on one of there new laptops. Opinions? Thoughts?

Good question! I haven't tried it in high glare conditions yet. The room I'm in is pretty dim. I'd imagine it wouldn't be too great if outside on a sunny day or something like that.
Exactly! I hate those annoying glossy laptops! Cool for movies, bad for... well... anything else. Way too much glare adn reflection off the screen to use it for any real "work".
"ooooooh look at that pretty screen it's so clear!"
... and i'm like "yea? it's good for putting your make up on isn't it? oh what's that? a big LIGHT in the background? now you can't see what's on the screen because the lights in your room reflect PERFECTLY... "
macs don't put them on because they would lose all of their graphic design customers... because it's what's on the screen that matters... not what's around you.
those damn clear plastic covered LCD's make better mirrors than they do screens...
it's just a false illusion because there's no white tinge to everything so some colours seem richer... especially the black strips when you watch a movie in widescreen...
anyway... so just my beef with those stupid screens... i hate them...
the reason is that it's a clear plastic, so it's a very good reflector... yes, it also lets more light through so colours seem more vivid... but what's the trade-off here? unfortunately... the apple screens also glare a lot... and makes a giant white splash on the screen... but you're not looking at who's behind you...
Ya those glossy screens look nice at first glance, but try to actually spend a good few hrs fighting to see what your screen is showing instead of what the screen is reflecting and you'll change your mind.
I got a PSP as a gift and it too has a glossy screen, but when I try to use it in the subway, forget about it, All I see is the reflection of the lights.
