I used the search to see if there was any threads like this, but considering how new models of printers come out ever so often, I thought it would be best to ask for the best deal.
I've been looking through RedflagDeals.com, and also been searching through BestBuy/FS and Staples.ca, and I really don't know which one would be the best choice.
I need one that is 100% compatible with my ibook, which is why I'm asking here for suggestions. My price range is max $80 (before tax). I'm looking for an inkjet, either just a regular printer, or an all-in-one. If someone could suggest a model that is very efficient on ink (black especially), that would be great. I've always used HPs, and I hate having to buy new cartridges cuz they're so expensive, and once refilled, they're no good (on my experience).
I found a few deals for laser printers for about $99 (brother/samsung), but the reviews for them aren't so great (paper gets blocked up, bad quality/dirty prints). I'd also like to be able to print the occasional color picture. My brother currently has an HP 1315, and it's $80 at FS for the 1315V (don't know the difference). It prints fast, and great quality, but I just don't know how it is ink-wise. I heard canons are really good at being ink-efficient.
Any suggestions? There's also an Epson (or canon, I forget) all-in-one that's $80 at futureshop also, so I don't know if that's any good.
I would go with Epson. If you go with the R200 you will not be sorry. Photo picture quality is incredible. Prints at 5760 x 1440 dpi and has 6 ink bays. Now, you may say "6? Why? That will be too expensive." I've actually saved money in the long run compared to the all 3 colors in one cartridge, or 3 seperate colors and a black. The printer will use a little from each, and when one color goes, you don't loose the rest of the colors (some times when your cyan goes, you still have some more ink of the other two colors...huge waste of money). The box comes with all the ink you'll need to start off with, and then after that they are 19.99 at any supply store. And the great thing is....the printer is $73 (sorry, that's after a mail in rebate...but that's the way you'll get a printer that's half decent for your price range).
I personally have the R300 and would highly recommend it to anyone. The R200 has the same mechanics in it as the R300, so I know it will be good.
And a bonus, you can print on actual CDs or DVDs right in the printer...has a bay specifically for printing on "printable" (meaning white labelled or white faced discs).
Sorry, one more thing. They fully support OS X, and have full drivers to take advantage of all the features the printer has to offer in a Window's world.
Good luck...hope you find what you are looking for.

I have an Epson R200. It's a great cheap printer, that can be had at the price your willing to spend. One warning is a set of inks will cost the same if not more than the printer. My solution is I have a Continuos Ink System or a bulk ink system, it cost $60 from The Source formerly Radio Shack. It works great. I only use Epson Papers with the exception of when I'm printing text, and the colours are fantastic, and I'm pretty critical when it comes to colour correctness. But this might be overkill for what you want. Maybe you want to check out the source's website to see if they have other CIS ink systems for other printers before jumping into a printer.
I'm personally a Canon fan. I picked up the Canon Pixma MP130 for $150 a couple of months ago. The ink is great quality, as well.. it's really really cheap to replace. It only costs $30 taxes inc for BOTH Black and Color together at Staples.
I would assume that there are a lot of Canon's which could be had in the price range you're looking for. Have a look around
It is unforuntate that 80$ is your maximum...if you had a bit more I would suggest a laser printer regardless of the reviews you read. We have owned a Brother 2030 printer, which is about the cheapest there is (http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/Pr...roduct=2513400) and its great. I highly suggest that you get laser if all you want to do is print black. Otherwise, as it has been for years, you will be spending a lot of money on cardridges (all new printers come with a half filled ink/toner cartridge) however the toner lasts a lot longer for the money.
Thanks for the info Strimkind. I was actually looking to buy a laser at first, but I would like to be able to print in color once in a while. Sometimes for pictures, sometimes for school.
What is the going rate for the Epson R200 cartridges; anyone know? If it's only $30 to get BOTH Canon cartridges, then I wouldn't mind spending a bit more. But it also depends on how many pages are printed per cartridge.
