Belkin Wireless G router and Appletalk

This will be of interest to anyone that still needs Appletalk support over wireless. Most wireless routers will send Appletalk through the wired connections, but not via a wireless connection. This isn't a problem for most people since most connections now use the TCP/IP protocol.

For those of you that still need Appletalk to communicate with older Laserwriters or pre-OS9 Macs then I think I've found an inexpensive wireless alternative to an Airport Extreme base station.

I picked up a Belkin Wireless G Plus Router from "Uncle Bucks" in Windsor for $29. I think these are older and/or open box stock from "Best Buy".
The packaging says that it supports Appletalk so I gave it a try. The good news is that it does send Appletalk packets over wireless. It also comes with Mac friendly instructions and software.

The web based setup also works well. The only downside was that I had to switch to a different compatibility mode to allow my old Lucent laptop card to communicate with the router. This may hurt the speed of the "G" connections in a mixed "b" and "G" network.

So, if you've been looking for a wireless "G" router that supports Appletalk over wireless, then this one will do the trick.

I have a Belkin "F5D7230tt4" for a many years with a "AsantéTalk" an a HP 5MP, working without problems over wireless and Appletalk from my iBook. Before I was using a software bridge on my G3 that ad to be left on all the time, I believe you call that a printer server ?

That printer is also connected to my PCeee via parallel connection.
