Because (as per usual), Apple's pricing for .Mac in Canada isn't a true representation of the exchange rate when compared to the US price, is there any way (and if so, any detriment) to buy via the US?
Believe it or not, it actually costs money to bring stuff across the border into Canada. At $100US and $130CAN, you are talking about a difference of $13 after exchange. Can you really justify screwing local businesses for the sake of saving $13?
Perhaps BobbyFett was going to be buying .Mac from the online Apple store. And it almost certainly doesn't cost Apple an extra $13 to bring the 200 gram box across the border. So he would be essentially donating the extra money to Apple for no good reason. Why should Bobby simply give the money away?
They lowered the price but how does your retail box rationale make sense if you purchase online? Nothing to ship. Add the pst/gst and you still have a significantly higher price than what Americans are charged. If iTunes can be at par why can't .Mac?

Don't worry. It seems guytoronto seems to enjoy paying more for absolutely no good reason.;-) ;-)

I was going to order it online yes. Would I pay taxes on that here? If so it's not just a $13 difference.
I work hard for the money I earn. If I can get something cheaper than first appears, I'll do my best to try.
...but you'll have to do it in person or have an American address and credit card to use.
Clarification:
1. American address, yes (use a relative or aquaintance there).
2. Credit Card can be your own (Canadian).
My story: I bought two iSights on sale from the American Apple store online, the Friday after Thanksgiving in the states (huge one day sale). Even though the Canadian Apple store online also had specials that same day, I saved approximately $60.00 just by the difference on the dollar and difference in tax (my sis-in-law lives in MD and they only pay 5% tax). I set up an account with the (American) Apple store online with her information, selected what I wanted to buy and paid for it with my VISA. She got the package and brought it up with her at Christmas.
