remember everyone ... early adopters always live on the bleeding edge While they are nice I won't be purchasing any first gen hardware, been there too many times and been bit too many times.

Where can you check the educational pricing? Also, I called Apple and they say that they don't charge the CC until items are shipped. In the case of the MacBook Pro that's at least a month off. Sounds suspicious .. is that the case?

Educational pricing is done on the webstore, on the right hand side, you should see a link to "other stores" and eduacatoinal is under that.

check this out though::
same price:

15.4" intel core duo 1.83, 1gb ram, 100 gb hd, x1600/256mb video

or

17" 1.67 G4, 512 mb ram, 120 gb hd, 9700/128 mb video

both are $2699 @ the Edu store.

And yes, bleeding edge life sometimes makes you get cut, I agree completly. But that's no reason we won't be drooling all over it untill the 2nd or 3rd gen has the bugs worked out

My parents got a first gen dual 2.0 G5. It's been great since day one and still feels cutting edge after a couple years. I've never seen a computer stay current for so long. If they had waited they would've just lost time with the G5 without really gaining anything.

x86 chips are proven performers unlike the G4 or G3 when apple first adopted them.
