Uneven lighting for LCDs...

Is this a common [problem] with Apple laptops in general? I've had two Powerbooks, both of which had/have uneven lighting..

This one that I have now is actually more noticable than the first, especially in the two bottom corners where it's brighter.. but then in the middle of the screen, close to the bottom there's a slight shadow... goes away only if I crank the brightness to full.. which is waaaaay too bright!

Just wondering if Apple would consider this a defect and exchange it... would I just get stuck with another one with the same problem?

If you complain enough, you'll probably get a replacement LCD panel; bring it to a local Service Provider and see what they have to say. Your LCD's are suffering from backlight leakage or bleeding, as it's put, and usually isn't considered a defect unless it's fairly large or bluntly obvious and in the way. Most LCD's suffer from this problem to some extent; others more so. I've found that most iBooks/PowerBooks don't have the problem so much, though when they do, it can be fairly bad.

I noticed the same thing in very low light on my new iMac. It's barely noticeable and not at all in normal lighting, so I didn't bother loosing my pc for weeks on end just to have it replaced maybe by a new one, eventually.

It also has that strange sparkle effect, which is on most of the Apple LCDs I've seen.. but my previous 12" Powerbook didn't have it, and the 15" I had briefly I remember was perfect... I think I will end up taking it in, thought not right now.. since I do have a year warranty, I'm sure it'll get worse and then I won't have to argue as much with the 'genius'.

Here's a pic I took with my camera.. you can see the bottom corners, the shadow in the middle towards the bottom is kinda there, but a little difficult to see.. the backgroud was white, but I turned the exposure down so it looks grey... but I think it pretty much shows what I'm talking about... is it enough to get replaced?

OMG thats nothing heres a pic of mine... it's horrible but becuase i have a small dent on the side the refuse to replace the LCD, live and let die. it used ot bug me alot but i've gotten used to it. i thought for a while if there was a program u could make that would level out all the lighting. i guess it's not possible but maybe something that could darken all the pixels 'cept for the bright ones. i duno just a thought.

Here is the link.
They should replace it without hassle. Call Apple directly.
