Quad PM G5 2.5 and 30" ACD have arrived !!

Yes, I'm typing this message on my new PM Quad 2.5 with 8GB RAM and an nVidia FX4500 video card.

I'm currently downloading a large number of Software Updates.

First impressions.

The 30" ACD is really big!

The PM is much quieter than I expected but then I'm not really taxing it very much.

I'll keep everyone posted. But I've got to finish setting everything up so I may not post again for a few days.

Sweet ... my quad is enroute somewhere, actually ... I have absolutely no idea where it is, I just know it's "shipped"... I can't wait for my life to be accelerated. I'm surprised there aren't more posts from people regarding your new machine; if it had been an iMac, a Mac Mini, or a new iPod you would have been bombarded!

Put your helmet and seatbelt on and enjoy.

I'm sure more people would have posted about this but for their fingers slipping off the keyboards from all the drool.... :-)

We just got our stock in yesterday - ( btw we have ONE unspoken for if anyone is looking ) and if I get time I might throw it up on the bench for some test runs.

I hope to have an 8 gig RAM "touring unit" as we did with the original G5s so appropriate clients can take a test drive to see the benefits of the additional speed.

If anyone has specific questions or tests I'd be happy to try and help out.

Quick impression from set up for a client yesterday was very little "feel" difference from a 2.3 but that is to be expected as the architecture is the same. It'll show up in the grunt work - encoding, rendering etc.
Our video guy is frothing at the mouth to try it but he's busy all weekend

Stay tuned.

BTW I have a question for 30" owners - how is the screen redraw with big photoshop files and what video card are you using??

Gaston Xbench ....will not reveal anything as it's does not measure the multi processors.
