Hi everyone! As ehMac seems to be getting New Neighbors almost every day lately, I thought it would be neat to share some stories about why we come to this place and how ehMac has contributed to our lives. Please jot down your thoughts and share with your fellow neighbors.

For me, ehMac has become a great place to communicate with other Canadian Mac users. As you know, we are far too often overlooked by Apple and good retailers are not always easy to find...so ehMac has (on several occasions) helped me find what I need for my Mac.

I have been a citizen of ehMac for just over a year. I started last summer while I was living in Bosnia...and ehMac has been my homepage ever since. I have made new friends here. Had some great discussions here. And best of all...I sold my 500MHz Pismo to someone on ehMac and was then able to buy my new eMac!! :D I just love this place...and I hope you do too!!!

Cheers!

I was referred here to ask questions in my search for good online or retail Canadian Mac stores. I was in a MacAddict forum and I guess another ehMacian told me about this Canadian Mac site called ehMac.

I initially bookmarked ehMac under my 'Mac Stores' heading, and in fact its still there

Bookmarks> Mac Stores> ehMac.

I primarily come here to post about and check out people's opinions, reviews, news, and advice on Mac-related topics. The boards were/are really easy to use and look good.

I also found a nice little community of Unreal Tournament Mac-players, which was too cool. :D So its also a good place to find out when the next Fragfest is scheduled for some online gaming entertainment.

'lo. I'm quite new to this place, so for me it's too early to share stories that extoll the virtues of ehMac. I'm a happy member of MaCentral's forums, but sometimes the Ameri-centric nature of that place gets to me. In light of that fact, I figured it might be nice to investigate what a Canadian Mac forum has to offer.

At first glance, it seems a tad slower in here than the pace I've become accustomed to, but I'm willing to give it some time. Cheers.

I think you will find it picks up in here when a hot topic is started, or Trevor Morris gets people worked up (where did he go to these days?) or when there is something going on in the Mac world that needs to be spoken about.

While I go to the Mac forums in the US, I find they are populated by too many whackos. ;)

Well, yeah, but my take on it is that the wackos are everywhere ;). Generally, i enjoy the American boards, even the rough and tumble of political threads - but once in a while it feels hiopelessly skewed. Which could be remedied, I suppose, in here.

As for contentious/lively topics, bring 'em on! Makes life interesting. Cheers.

What ehMac has done for me. A list, if you will.

- ehMac gives me the warm fuzzies to be a Canadian.
- I thought I was the only Macaddict in the whole world. It makes me feel, well, warm and fuzzy.
- ehMac gives me someone to shoot at on thursday, although I usually am the one in a cloud of scarlet warm fuzzy chunky spray.
- ehMac makes my wash smell fresh and summer-clean.

Let's break down the name, then.

e is for ehMax, the guy who put it all together.
h is for happy. Hairy. Haggis. Hmmm. I can't think of a good "h" word.
M is for Macintosh, or Mackerel, whichever you prefer.
a is for Apple. Or a bunch of dirty words you were probably thinking of right now.
c is for Canada, which I guess is pretty obvious. It could also be "crappy PC" or "creativity" or "Centris" or something along those lines. Unfortunately, it can't be "Think Different", because neither of those words starts with a "c".

Here's to another year of Mac-worship!

"h" could be for "healthy". I'm sure it's much healthier being a Mac-user.

by the way,I'm sure you meant Mach Kernel and not Mackerel. I'm sure the unix heads wouldn't like us calling it a Mac Kernel.

I have to say the first reason I came to ehMac was to try to sell my G3 400 B&W Tower, earlier this year. A guy on the MacNN forums told me about this Canadian forum, so I thought I'd take a look. Sure enough, a day or two later after I advertised on ehMac, I had a half-a-dozen emails offering to buy it.

I then noticed a few Mac users that I knew before and found ehMac to be a nice community, so I stayed around.

The UT Fragfest is also a nice feature of ehMac that I hope to attend a bit more often (I'll have to try and get in on the action after CSI). I did get a chance to get in one UT fragfest.

I guess I'm drawn primarily for the sense of community. Canada is a very big country and we Mac users are really spread out, consequently I feel a little alone in my neck of the woods. Of course the helpful nature of almost all the citizens make it a great Mac technical support site. Also it's great to do business here, I sold some RAM a long time ago. Finally the irreverent, wicked humour (thanks macnutt) also makes for a great read.

Oh! How could I forget to mention ehMac citizens look the best when they are blown up in a UT FragFest.

(heh, heh... bits o' ehMax everywhere) :D

Hello,

I found this site through the Westworld computer store site when I was learning more about Macs. I had never had a Mac and I wanted to read about people's experiences with them. ehMac has given me some useful advice about simple problems, entertainment, and knowledge about current Mac related events/news. Plus, I always like to see Canadians being, well, Canadian.

Canadian Mac Community.

I think that explains it best. If you are a Canadian, a Mac User, or both, it's a great place to hang out with like-minded individuals.

I've been here pretty much since the beginning of the millenium.

Let me see here... I seem to remember seeing some mention of ehMac in "As The Apple Turns" which I was addicted to when it was being regularly broadcast. I'm pretty sure that the ATAT article mentioned, or had something to do with, CubaMark.

Once I got here, I looked in and didn't contribute for a while. Then I had a question or two and posted my first topics. The replies were thoughtful, helpful and frequently entertaining, as well.

I was hooked....big time. :D

Nowadays it's my favorite forum! I'm here more often than anywhere else. I honestly think that you people are some of the most intelligent and interesting human beings that I have had the good fortune to converse with.

This is from a guy who has lived and worked in nine countries on three continents.

Besides....where else could I find another group of otherwise intelligent people who would put up with my wretched excesses on a daily basis?

While on another message board, someone there directed me here because I was interested in learning about Macs. Sure enough this site helped with the purchase of my first Mac and has been responsive to all of my newbie questions so far! Thanks to everyone for all their contributions and insight, all of course with a good old Canadian flavour to it!

in all honesty, the main reason that I like ehMac besides getting so many chances to help out and be helped out by like minded souls, is that there is far far far less whining here than on pretty much every other forum.

The topics here all start with "Isn;t this great?" or Please help!" whereas at AppleInsider they all start with either "What Apple has done wrong", "what appl e still needs to do" or possibly "this sucks! why can't apple get off it's ass?"

there is a very distinct positive tone here that has been lost on a good deal of the rest of the net. it is refreshing.

I guess I've been here for a little over a year and a half; I'm one of the under 100 member numbers. I re-registered shortly after the boards came back online and were resurrected using this great new interface.

I've found this to be a very helpful and friendly community and that is why I continue to come back and dedicate whatever free time I can to it. This sort of atmosphere is becoming quite rare on public boards, as the general attitude and temperament can get very rude and whiny. I wanted to help keep this community as special as it is and do my best to remind people to behave themselves. (Not that I have to do that often, after all, we are CANADIANS. We were born polite, eh? ;) ) But I also like to remind people how lucky we are that we have each other and to appreciate each other for the help and advice that we share amongst our ehMac citizens.

We have developed a very special community, nay, I'd even say a very special ehMac family -- one that can be very supporting when the need arises, helpful when you need troubleshooting, share their experiences, good or bad, so that others can benefit from them. Being Canadian only adds to the sense of community, as we share so many things that are hard to understand if you are not "one of us" -- whether it is the "proper" Canadian spellings, our unique sense of humour, our insight into international politics, our tolerance of Canadian weather extremes (and our southern neighbours) and our cool colour-coded cash! ;)

I'm glad that I've found you all and hope that you will all continue to make this as special a place as you already have. Don't forget to invite your Mac friends, family and acquaintances if you haven't already... (Why not have an "ehMac sig/link" for use on the US-based Mac boards?) After all, the more of us Canadian Mac users, the better!

That is precisely why I come here too...and continue to do so. I just love you guys!!! :D The sense of "community" here is something that is very difficult to find in other parts of the 'Net.

ehMac rocks my world! Thanks ehMax!!! you're one class act!

Greetings. I just registered two days ago - I was referred to the site by Macdoc to find a thread on fragmentation due to unix-type swap files in OS X. I posted a question yesterday on root logins at the same time I posted it on MacNN forums (which I've used for 2 years). I'm happy to report I got the answer I was looking for on ehMac rather than MacNN. That's impressive, given the much smaller size of the Canadian Mac Community!

ehMac has - and continues - do to one vital thing, connect Canadians. This kind of forum is rare enough, as so many people are passive recipients - have been for too darn long - of American culture, ideas, products, etc. That we have a place to be Canadian Mac users is an important thing. ehMax, you may not realize it, but you are making a contribution to our national sovereignty and sense of citizenship. How's that for a pat on the back?

Capucine - thanks for the reminder. YES, it takes less than 15 seconds to change your .sig to give ehMac a big push... with every email, people will know that this community exists. I'm firing up Eudora as we speak...

And since Capucine brought it up (and the kitchen's still closed for renovations), let me just point out perhaps the most important reason to oppose monetary union with the U.S. of A.: I like my colour-coded cash! Can't tell you how many times I've given away $10 bills instead of $1s, or (believe it) a $50 instead of a $5 to some Cuban waiter, Jamaican shopkeeper, etc. Give me my Blues, my Reds, my Purples and browns... who needs green?

Here here!!!!! Probably one of big reasons why I created ehMac. (And why I put it in the agreement to sign on as member to ehMac)... No whining!

Of course Apple has its share of problems and dumb mistakes... But relative to other companies? Forget about it! Apple rocks!

Hello,

I totally agree with PB. This forum is very positive compared to MacNN, which is the only other forum I read. On MacNN, there's a lot of complaining that Apple doesn't bring out their hardware soon enough. Sure, Apple makes mistakes, sure their software has some bugs in it, et cetera, but it's still a thousand times better than Windoze stuff. It just gets very repetitive reading the complaints over and over gain. Many of the complaints get repeated on a very regular basis.

I also think this community is a lot nicer because it's realtively small. You sort of get to know people, which is nice. It's not just a bunch of seemingly random people making seemingly random posts.

Plus, people here seem to have a decent sense of humour and I enjoy seeing words spelled the correct Canadian way.

James

Dictionary - Decent: Of moderately good quality but less than excellent: acceptable, adequate, all right, average, common, fair, fairish, goodish, moderate, passable, respectable, satisfactory, sufficient, tolerable. ;)

PS: I don't think I've ever used the word 'goodish.' I also think I might have lost marks on my papers if I had of used it.

I've been on this board for a year and a half, and registered the same day as Capucine
Love this board, as well its a) Canadian b)Mac c) nice, and even when I made an ass of myself once, I didn't get flamed, since then just enjoyed reading and learning, and the occasional idea thrown in.

So thank you to ehMax for making this, I don't know how I woulda known all I know about the Mac without it. With such knowledgeable ppl such as PB and Gordguide (when is he getting back from the oil fields?) this board answers all questions. That and you can just kick back and relax.

I got a link to here from a story on MacCentral that had a quote from ehMax. The rest after that is pointless in trying to explain all the help and discussions we have had.

ehMax, no need to cry, just give yourself a pat on the back and say thanks to your family for letting you do this and give a heartfelt thanks from us.

When will you learn it's not size that matters? It's the quality of the community that counts!
