Quad G5

so my friend just bought the new quad powermac g5 and upgraded it like crazy.
hopefully it arrives quickly so I can play around on it haha.

just because i'm very very jealous here are the specs on it.

2.5GHz Quad-core PowerPC G5
2GB 533 DDR2 ECC SDRAM- 4x512
500GB Serial ATA - 7200rpm
QUADRO FX 4500 512MB SDRAM
Apple Cinema HD Display (30" flat panel)
Apple Cinema HD Display (30" flat panel) (added the extra display)
AirPort Extreme + Bluetooth built-in
16x SuperDrive DL (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Apple Wireless Keyboard & Mouse - U.S. English
Mac OS X - U.S. English
Final Cut Express HD + Motion 2 preinstalled
Accessory kit
AppleCare Protection Plan for Power Mac

Just thought I'd share.

Has anybody used one of the new PowerMacs? How much better/faster are they than the last revision?

That's quite the set-up. I'm planning on getting one myself, but I'll upgrade the drives myself [Seagates] and put my own RAM in. I'm surprised he/she only put 2 GB of RAM in a system they just dropped 10K on and they should have gone for the 2x1GB RAM option [leaves more space for expansion]. The price-point on the 500 GB drives is ridiculous ... 2x300GB Seagates would be a fraction of the cost of one 500. I'm just nitpicking ... I've been trying to figure out what the cheapest/best value option is. I'll be holding on the Quadro FX and dual 30" screens too - that isn't to say I don't want them.

There isn't much info about these machines yet b/c they have really long ship-dates ... especially BTO models. But just based on the system architecture [faster RAM, faster L2, faster PCIe etc...], they'll be smoking especially with that Quadro FX! With similar RAM and graphic cards, I would imagine the quad will be just slightly below twice as fast as the dual 2.7. The software of course has to be multi-processor "aware". You can be sure the quads will be very fast indeed.

Carbon Computing received their fist batch of Quads earlier last week. We have one Quad en route with Quadro 4500 card, but it's already spoken for. The ship times shouldn't be very long now, so if anyone's interested, they should place their orders.

What's so good about the Quadro card? Could someone explain? How does this card compare to ATI's offerings? Blame me for being a patriot but if video cards is like the one thing I can support a Canadian company with then video cards it is. Go ATI Go.

I don't believe that Apple is offering any ATI products in their BTO options. I've read that there isn't anything currently that competes with the NVIDIA Quadro FX and the NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT [for Macs using PCIe - I could be wrong] ... I'm sure ATI will up the anti soon enough, but for now Apple gives us three choices. However, the Quadro is an insane card capable of running two 30" ACDs and it has 512 MB of VRAM - it's a true workstation graphics card. It has tons of other features, but I'm no expert when it comes to graphics cards [I'll leave that to the gamers on ehMac], but I do know I need more than 64 MB of VRAM [this is what my PB has].

MacDoc:

Is the delay related to the BTO graphics cards? If I plug in a standard Quad configuration I get 7-10 business days prior to ship ... w/BTO options I get 6-8 weeks?
