Angry sites that don't work on my mac (i.e. that suck!)

I use Safari under Panther. I tried to go to http://www.oldnavy.com today and got a repeating loop in the address bar.

Reluctantly I tried explorer only to be told that my browswer was inadequate -- I mean not supported. I was going to send a customer service email since I could at least see the shell of the user interface on explorer but it wouldn't let me -- seems I don't exist or need to be considered.

Why is it that if all I do is basic browsing I need several if not many browsers. Can't anybody just make one that does it all (i.e. apple so I could be lazy and access the most basic of web pages without having to constantly keep myself up to date on the latest browswers).

I mean really, I thought the Internet was supposed to be for everyone. Democratic access to information, phewy. (I know, it's only old navy but that site has the only picture of the sold-out-in-store chicken costume that my son wants for halloween and seeing the picture is the only way I'll be able to make one myself).

First 'they' expect you to have a computer (and electricity, literacy, money, etc.) and now 'they' expect you to keep up with the Jones' of their choosing without always telling you who they are.

Oldnavy.com works fine in Firefox.

Try Firefox:

I use Safari most of the time. Occasionally i'll use Firefox, but for Mac, Safari is way better and faster.

[QUOTE=dolawren]Oldnavy.com works fine in Firefox.

I know it should work fine in firefox, they tell me so when I get the 'your browser isn't good enough' slap using Explorer. I appreciate the suggestion, my beef is more with the idea that I'd have to get yet another browser just to look at a relativley basic site from a relatively major retailer.

It just seems dumb that you'd have to have a bank of browsers just to use the one/many strands of the web. I like Safari, it's simple, not fancy, not weak but not overly spectacular, simple like me.

oh but a simple man's dream.

Rat bastards! They are all part of the same family of companies. There is no need for them to be so stupid about such things and so purposefully too since they go so far as to name browsers they WILL support leaving it obvious of who they will not.

Enable the debug menu in Safari.. and change the user agent to "Windows MSIE 6.0." This loaded Old Navy just fine.

You can also download "Safari Enhancer"
Install it and then change the user agent in the debug menu to mimic a browser that does work.

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/17776

For example...
Emulating Mozilla 1.1 with the debug menu works with OldNavy.com
