I am new to the mac "world" and am enjoying fumbling away on a new ibook (g4 w/ superdrive). I was hoping to be able to burn back up copies of my daughters favorite DVD's (shes almost 3 and hell on DVD's..even though she is really really careful...her words...not mine!) I haven't been able to figure out how to do this...any hints, tips would be great.
I think it should be pretty basic but like I said, the platform is new to me.
Cheers.!
I forgot to ask...I took a peak at the software that was listed...it appears that I need one to rip and a seperate to burn...is that right? or am I better off finding an all in one?
The new Toast (ver 7) does a much better job than Popcorn.
By-the-way, do a search through the archives this subject has been approached a number of times over the past year and there are numerous shareware and commercial ways to do it.
I saw that...now opinions please...am i better off going all in one (Fast dvdcopy) or going with mac the ripper and popcorn? I guess convenience is mostly the issue (and the cost but I don't mind paying for a product that works well)
cheers
Check your PM, I sent you one yesterday when you first posted covering most of this. I would highly recommend seperate programs including DVD2OneX as it enables you to work around certain problems with the last available FREE version of Mac the Ripper. I haven't used an all in one solution but I can only guess that it would limit your ability to "tweak" if you run into problems.
I use it all the time to back up my movie collection to carry in my motor home. That way the originals are safe at home and if the grandchildren scratch one it is no big deal.
Fast DVD is a little pricey but worth every penny for an AIO program. Only drawback it time. A movie can take up to two hours to rip, compress and burn.
Now I have a question for you guys. What do you do if you have a PAL DVD? How do you convert it to NTSC? My Toshiba home DVD player won't play it (but my Mac will as well as the Diamond (no-name DVD Player) that's in the bedroom will play it). I want to burn it so it will play on everything
