My setup.

iBook G3 500 - hard drive too small for my large collection of TV AVI files.
Compaq PC - with lots of storage, always on (with BitTorrent running), lots of AVI files.

Bedroom, two rooms away from PC, has TV plugged into PC video. Hate having to run down the hall to change TV shows to watch, or pause a movie.

Solution!

Load VNC onto my PC and iBook. Sit in my bedroom, control my PC wirelessly with my iBook. It runs pretty quick too! No serious lag! Love it!

The latest version Chicken of the VNC client is very good (the previous versions were very buggy) for connecting to UltraVNC servers on Windows. This new version polls the remote display more often and latency is generally low.

The speed is almost as good as XP's Remote Desktop.

I also use it the other way around: while I'm on my PC at the office and the Mac is running some stuff at home, I remotely connect to the Mac from the PC... Very useful, and it somewhat brings a little bit of my Mac at the office :-)
I have OSXvnc running on the Mac, and I just openned the apropriate port on my router.
