But the money eventually would run out.

This article was a few years ago and since then Apple has had major breakthroughs with the iPod and the iTunes Music Store.

I do not remember where I read the article but it sure was a good insight into the future. Eventually Apple would run out of money making OS's at 1 billion a pop so Apple saved themselves with the iPod and iTunes (which of course have made them a lot of money). Maybe Apple cannot sell computers anymore? Maybe they will become a software/music/iPod company!

I sure hope not.
I really do not know a lot about this subject so I hope my impression on this matter is wrong! I cannot see myself running OS X and beyond on a Sony!
Sorry, but that's nonsense. Apple would never run out of money, they still have well over 5 billion in the bank. The iPod didn't save them from going bankrupt (or running out of money), it did help the company grow, though, into a new market. And the computer harddware side still makes most of the money.

Now that we've seen a few years results of Apple's Intel Macs, I wonder what "Unix BUM Converted to Mac OS X..." thinks about the situation.'
As has been said by many others, the G5 was not being developed further fast enough by IBM and PowerBooks just needed more CPU power to keep up.
For Apple to take advantage of the Wintel compatible Intel CPU to support Windows was IMO a stroke of marketing genius. Many switchers love it, being able to continuing running their Windows on a new Mac gives them a big comfort zone.
Mac sales have taken off and business is taking notice of lovely MacOS X, while business rejects Windows Vista.

Thank goodness I bought a MDD G4/1.25 when I saw the huge G5 tower with half the storage bays. I didn't need more heat in my home office.
By avoiding the G5 tower I was able to add an Intel Mini to my configuration.

A Mac user since 1984.

NO YOU ARE WRONG! Apple really could care less about software; if you compare $ from hardware and software, hardware blows it to smithereens...Apple is a hardware vendor...hardware vendors don't just switch from the model that brings in billions of dollars a year...

No, I like the old threads. It's fun to see who was basically right, who was dead wrong and who was uncannily psychic.

Having said that, I pray that my old posts from the early days of USENET never come to the surface ...

Sure, it's not as if you can be wrong right away, also!
