Question Multifunction Printers?

My wife just started a new job that moves her to a home-office. The company is buying a printer for her, and it must have fax/copy/scan/print.

The first suggestion her IS guy gave was the HP LaserJet 3015, but I'm a little concerned with the scanner feed path on that model (in at top, out at bottom). I'd rather a flatbed-style like the 3020/3030.

She has a Dell laptop running XP. I have a multitude of Macs and a PC (currently XP, Linux soon) that I'd like to connect to it as well. I currently print to a LaserWriter Pro 630, but we don't have the space for two big printers in our condo.

So here are the questions:

1) Are the LaserJet 30xx series any good? I did some searches here and it seems to be OK.

2) Is the LaserJet+JetDirect solution the way to go for sharing? Those JetDirect boxes are rather pricey, so I want to make sure they don't suck.

TIA.

- Martin.

I've had the HP 3030 for the past 6 months and I'm quite satisfied with it. I have a standalone fax so I do not use it for faxing, but it comes with a very large and detailed faxing manual. Two trays and the auto feed are a plus. YMMV.

Be careful! I believe only the 300x supports Macs, and only LPT1 printers (parallel connections). I have one in my collection somewhere...

We have a brother mfc 8840 primarily as a fax machine at the office. Drivers available for printing and scanning for both macs and PCs. We have the duplex printing & network version, which is exceptional. It includes network printing, fax to email, relaying inbount faxes to an email address, and many other powerful features.
