problems with apple store toronto

well, I jumped ship this week and finaly got a power book 12". I opted to get the upgraded 756 ram, so I take home the computer, and feel its running MUCH slower than the demos at the apple store. so I think mabey the system has to warm up or somthing. so I continue waiting. finaly today i find out how to check the system utilities. find out the guy who installed my ram, didnt put it in correctly, so I was running tiger on 256. a quick call o apple store they say comon in. i get there 10 minutes and the stick is installed. good service on solving the problem, never once did the manager even motion for the problem to be my fault, even though for a while she couldent beliee it had happened. Extremly appologetic and helped me get on my way quick.

good work apple

ps: quick question: do you find airport to not have as good range as some pc cards? I tried taking my laptop outside today where my brothers dell always has low signal, 5 mbps rate, but airport couldent find anything. not even my neighbours signal :

The powerbooks range is sadly deminished by it's design and casing. A good alternative is to purchase a PCMCIA wireless card and hook up a directional antenna. Also, check out the thread about the Cantenna.. a simple search should bring it up. Still wish I could do this with my iBook

The wireless signal thing drives me crazy.
My 15" PB (first version of the Aluminum one) often shows very low signal strength, but the actual reception is fine. I have been at conferences where my colleagues with Dells and Gareways can't get any signal at all, whwereas my 15" shows maybe only 1 or 2 bars but reception is fine.

My new 12" PB shows very high signal strength all over the place - excellent reception. A different world from the earlier PB: they must have made changes to the design.

Pretty sure the 12" PB doesn't have a PCMCIA slot.

Correct. Just make sure the Airport card is seated correctly (unless they're using that new on-logic-board AP card). It goes in near the battery door.

Um...so why is the title of this thread called "Problems with Apple Store toronto?"

Shouldn't it be "Solutions from Apple Store Toronto"?

I've never had any problem with Airport. Mind you, I've got a 2 year old iBook. I've used iBooks since the first rounded ones with the handle (still miss that!).
Right now, I'm sitting on my front porch. My Airport base station is on the second floor at the back of the house. I have five bars. I'm also receiving two signals from neighbours. One is across the road. The other is four houses away. I've also used my iBook in cafés sitting across busy streets from the base station with no problem.
