Sony, is starting to catch up with it's flash based players in Japan. 50 hour playback...stylish...Wow! & with a screen!
I believe Apple needs to create something better then the Shuffle if it wants to maintain its hold on the market. Why haven't they? Flash memory is superior because it's ruggedness...no?
Why do people prefer flash memory to hard drives--_large_ hard drives? And, more to the point, what difference does it make?
I'm sure when Apple tires of selling one million shuffles every month, they'll come up with something better...
It's amusing to see a pained request that Apple "do" something to retain the market in a device where they obliterate the competition in most parts of the world, and a market that didn't even exist a short time ago. No doubt in due course, Apple will just move on.
And how much do the Sony players cost and what do they look like?
Perhaps Apple should move on and just make a cell phone that plays iTunes. Now there's an idea! But the phone won't even work in Japan, unless there is a WCDMA version.
Sony finally got their heads straight and now support MP3s natively. Sony is finally becoming a threat. Their new HD player is pretty sweet and has 40-hour playback time (yeah that's probably with really really low bitrate files) the battery is removable and thing itself is even smaller than the iPod. Too bad there's still alot of work to do with Sonicstage.
