Boy, what a difference a few hundred km/miles makes. If the latest information on ifoapplestore is correct, a new Apple Store is opening near Rochester, NY in a week, and seemingly not a peep anywhere about it online since April. Contrast this with the way cool discussions, details and satellite photos (GMark proved demigodhood at the very least with that one) here at ehMac a week before Yorkdale launched.
I bow before the coolness of my northern neighbours. Any ehMac'ers coming down? The new store won't be any great shakes, just about the same size as Yorkdale... mostly I want to see who'll turn up and get the T-shirt, which will have the Apple logo and the word "Victor" (the actual town the mall is in). Then if I can only get a T-shirt with the MS logo and the word "Vanquished," I'll be all set.
Blah! 2 Apple Stores I was looking forward to, and it just happens to be 2 of the weeks my boss gives me shifts (which has been rare lately). I was just at Northbrook Court a couple weeks ago and saw the Apple Store. It's right beneath the Johnny Rocket's. I've asked if any relatives can grab me a shirt.
And then Rochester... So close yet so far! I wanna go, but I have work that afternoon. I would have to wake up at 6am, get there for 9:30-ish, get a shirt right away (I'd hope) and be home for my shift at 1. Get in, get shirt, get out. For a 3 hour drive each way? Can't do it. ARGH!!!
Nothing else on the horizon unless Apple can open Annapolis MD by next month (and in fact, specfically when I'm on a trip to DC). Pentagon City is too doubtful by then, Pittsburgh might be too far, and there is nothing else being speculated on within my driving distance.
I may be going to Rochester for the opening. I passed the city on my way to see the UFC in Atlantic City on June 3, it's an easy drive from the border.

I had not heard of that until now...I would love to go though! One of my parent's co-workers just went to visit the mothership (1 Infinite Loop, California) and she said it was so cool! Apparently they basically had big bins of refurbs and tons of other cool stuff. I want to visit the mothership! I will some day.

Quoted open date on ifoapplestore is July 23, which would put it on a Saturday, just like Yorkdale. I will call to get more information and post it here as I do. In fact, here's the listing from ifoapplestore:

Eastview Mall - Victor (NY) - A southeast suburb of Rochester, this gigantic mall offers over 1.3 million s.f. of retail space near I-90. It's about 8 miles from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and offers 1.3 million s.f. of retail space, with 150 shops, and an adjacent Target, Home Depot and multi-screen cinema. Scheduled for August grand opening in 3,600 s.f. space vacated by B. Dalton Books. Appeared as a job location on Feb. 25, 2005. Plywood barrier went up April 22, 2005. Grand opening July 23, 2005.

The Victor page is live and confirms a July 23rd opening. Details look similar to Yorkdale, with 1000 free T-shirts and a sweepstakes.
I don't think it will draw as big a crowd for a few reasons:

RIT, which is, according to ifoapplestore, one of the justifications for putting an Apple Store near Rochester, is on Summer Vacation.

There's a mini store already only around an hour away in Syracuse.

The local newspapers seem not to have made a peep about the opening since April.

No local ehMac equivalent. Local boards devoted to Apple seem a bit listless.

The Apple Store is located on Route 96 at Exit 45 off NY State Thruway at 7979 Pittsford-Victor Road, Store # 240, Victor, NY. The Apple Store is located in the front of the Mall, between Kaufmann’s and Sears. The Apple store is near the new wing.
