so i went into the apple store to ask about adding ram (doubling my 512 in my PB 1.25, to 1 gig of RAM)
the apple genius said it won't make a difference, just repair permissions.
Who the %!@#* hired this "genius"
Quote:
any thoughts.. is it worth spending 200 on new RAM?
will my PB be speedier.. using a lot of adobe apps.?
YES! <a href="http://accordionguy.blogware.com/blog/_archives/2005/6/8/919483.html">here's</a> someone else's tale about buying ram for a pb this week.
(oh, and the "YES" is for adding more RAM -- not for paying $200 for 512 at the Apple store)
Please note - I am merely offering this information for your consideration. I am not affiliated with, don't work for, nor profit from anything Canada Ram does.

I have the 15" 1.25 Ghz Powerbook as well ... with 1 G RAM ... while I agree that it does make sense for many things ... there is one item I discovered that it does not impact.
The original reason for upgrading RAM for myself was to decrease the time to encode a DVD ... after upgrading ... I discovered that the increase did not make any difference in the time it took to do the encoding ... I know because I tried a test after upgrading the RAM to see what would happen (re-encoding a project I had done before the upgrade).
I posted my findings on Apple's support forum and the response was that there was no difference in my case since DVD encoding is very processor intensive and since I only had a single processor ... the RAM upgrade did not make any difference for this task.
I think more RAM will be of benefit in many cases ... just do not expect it to improve everything.
