Panther or Tiger??

Just bought my mother a MacMini -got her to convert to Apple!!! yay!
Although now I will be her tech support department....
Should I install Tiger or stick with Panther?
it is a basic macMini with only 256Mb ram (I know not enough but can only afford so much) She is really only wordprocessing and web/internet stuff.

Should I upgrade to Tiger? Panther is working well for me, but like the new features. are the bugs worked out of it yet?

thanks

Given some of the problems that I've been hearing about and the fact that you're her tech support...I'd wait until version 2 comes out before upgrading!

Stick with Panther for now.
Unless you don't like your mom.
With the kind of usage you say she will have, Panther will more than handle it.
Did Tiger come pre-installed on the Mini?

i dont think so, my friend just bought an iBook and they provide the install disc but its not preloaded.

I never got a panther disc when i bought my iBook! Well, technically i did but it was the software restore and not an actual panther disc.

The Mini came with panther, but the store included a disc with Tiger on it (I don't know if that is really cosher or not, but I could get a free one from Apple so it is the same diff)

Thanks for the advice I was thinking the same thing- that Panther was fine for now.

Anyone know what works best for a remote access program? so I can trouble shoot long distance? Apple remote Access, Timbuctu or something else?

Try OSXvnc for the server, Chicken of the VNC for the client. I haven't used VNC on Mac, but it's great on Windows and Linux. Not sure any of these things work for long distance though - running any type of server off a home internet connection has its own challenges.
BTW, I agree - go with Panther to start - no big reason not to.
