I'm quite disturbed by iPhoto. More than once I have noticed that iPhoto loses some of my photos. All that is left is a grey box showing where the photo used to once be. I can't even open them within the iPhoto folder because they are corrupt.

The last time I noticed this happening was when I did an archive and install a couple of weeks ago. I threw out the "previous system" as I didn't need it anymore and everything seemed to be entact....

...apparently not.

Does anyone know how to keep iPhoto from dropping images? Or does anyi=one at least know what causes it?

Have you tried rebuilding the library?

ummm...no. Didn't know you could do that. What do I risk if I do that?...and HOW do you do it?

Give it a try. I can't say I've had the greyed out photo issue and I did rebuild my library after an issue without problems.

I believe (yes faith is required sometimes) that is fixes the links from the photograph database to the thumbnails displayed in the iPhoto UI
