Mac OSX: Shutdown or sleep?

Greeting,

I read a lot of threads about it but I need to know exactly what to do.

Do I need to shutdown my Mini or simply put it in Sleep Mode?

Thank you!

I keep mine in sleep mode whenever its not being used. I use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse with it (since its in the living room hooked up to an LCD TV) and to wake it I need to press the button on the back once. I keep all of my Macs in this state. The only problem I ever encountered was a G5 that often had kernel panics upon waking but that was due to the bluetooth keyboard and since switching to a wired keyboard/mouse, the problem evaporated.

Unless you are going to be away for a while or are in an area with hydro problems you should put the Mini to sleep. OS X wakes from sleep in a second or two and is very convienent.

Great to know.

I was looking if the hardware was good enough to be 24/7.

I turn off the PB around once a month. No particular reason for this - just like to purge the memory completely now and then - I guess it's not a good reason.....

I've learned to use sleep more often now since I got my powerbook. The only problem I have is that it is in the same room as where I sleep, and at night that pulsing white light is uber-bright. So I stick a mouse pad in front of it. Not elegant, but it works.

I only ever dim my display on my iBook.. it's constantly on. OSX has built in tuning features built in which do their work early in the morning/late at night.(whichever you prefer) I've never had a problem. I've done this with every Mac I've owned. And I still do it with the iMac upstairs that's almost 3 now.

I figure, servers are constantly up for websites/files/whatever. Why not put machines to the real test? The book is under warranty for 1 year, and there's applecare after that.

I think my record uptime is like around 65 days, if I remember correctly. Only reason I restarted was to install an OS Update. That was with Jag. Although, I have no documentation to support this. lol But, you can take it or leave it
