external drive setup

I need some help with an external drive configuration. I have a 1.8 single G5 with a 160 gig SATA drive. I want an external drive for backup, and I think that getting an SATA enclosure and drive was a good idea, since my G5 is configured with an SATA. Is there any reason why a I shouldn't use SATA for my external use? One reason I want SATA is in case my internal drive gives out, I'll have a spare one (in my external) to install. What enclosure is recommended? What about the Oxford 911 or 912 chipset? Is that a must? What Canadian outfit deals with SATA enclosures (Firewire 800)?

I've just heard about a new PCI-X SATA Controller card that was released and had external SATA connections. I had never heard of these before and wondered what kind of housing you would use for these drives since I've not seen an external SATA drive with SATA interface. There are SATA drives with built-in Firewire controllers for sure.

This question definitely need more investigation...

I've been checking out Mac Gurus site on enclosures, as well as others. What I'd like to find is an enclusure that has both the SATA and Firewire 800 connectors on the back. If it's only SATA, then I can't power it up to my Powerbook.

I'm a bit confused here. I thought that I could enclose an SATA drive in a Firewire enclosure. Am I wrong?
Have a look at Wiebetech products (http://www.wiebetech.com/home.php)
They have Firewire enclosures that support either IDE or SATA.

You have enclosures that connect via SATA to a the mac (via a card that supports SATA externally).
