I think we also have to keep in mind.. that, we chose the Mac because it suits us. The mac is optimized for some things and not others. My opinion, is that OS X is years beyond anything Microsoft. That's what I have come to love about my computer. The fact that I don't have to deal with Viruses, Spyware, Malware, etc.. is a godSEND! M$ still hasn't come up with any "good" solutions to the iApps. I also have something to add about using Adobe programs for benchmarks. Adobe and Apple are competitors, especially in Video Production. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if that affected the outcome of these tests either.. it would be hard to prove.. but who knows. Just some fruit for thought.
The real issue here isn't whether the Mac or PC is faster. My G5 is plenty fast & the OS is a joy to use. A PC may be faster, but unless you are some kinda tech guru, you'll spend a great deal of your productive time troubleshooting Windows, which is just plain frustrating. I chose a Mac because I like the Mac, I don't have to be a tech genius & I can get my work done, Plain & Simple.
BTW: I do have a PC too, because I require it for business accounting needs & converting (typo) some PC (Corel) files, but it is a bitter transaction!

I agree with all the posts gushing over OS X and our apps But come on gang; we've really seen NOTHING in terms of moving the CPU forward. Liquid cooled?? Kinda desperate I'd say. Any platform has to have at least some momentum of development. We aint got nuttin' except for Apple repackging the existing stuff.

It would seem that I remember that when Apple chose IBM the AMD 64 was also in the running. The AMD 64 is suffering from the same speed bump issues, no.
I also noticed that the Hard drives on the G5's were not rated or able to be tested. Were they comparing Apples to Apples? Pardon the pun.

Drop it. Comparison is pointless and everyone knows PCs are faster at most tasks anyway.
If you crave power, buy a PC. If you need resonable power, style and ease of use buy a MAC. End of story. Personally, as a Java developer, the MAC is more than enough to suit my needs.
There is no-one, and I mean no-one, who hates Macs more than Charlie. The last time he did a comparo (with Adobe SW) he skewed every test to favor the PC, right down to waiting until the very second Adobe released beta P4-optimized versions of every application, which he used for the tests (but nobody could actually buy at the time). For Video he used discontinued software for the Mac and beta SW for the PC, and refused to compare any suite of processes with Final Cut Pro because "it wasn't available for the PC".
Did he know that? Well, he consults for Adobe and Microsoft, so make your own conclusions. Run, don't walk, from anything he writes. He lives to bash Macs.
No matter where you stand on the "debate", find someone who actually knows what an objective test consists of, rather than a student of "The Art of War".
Out of curiosity, I poked at the site. After Effects? Give me a break.
I went to Dell's site and tried to build that PC. Let me tell you, I really couldn't get one that would actually be suitable for video work at his price, which probably explains why he doesn't give us anything close to a proper configuration list. If you consider 40GB drives and 64MB video cards suitable then Dell has your DAV workstation. Remember to add shipping, which is mandatory.
