Nice setup

I've heard too that a hard drive can actually fit on top of the superdrive, in case you wanted to add another

Hey, that's great.

Can you tell me which was the master and which was the slave? Did you have to fiddle with any jumpers/switches on the hard drive?

As well, if you hadn't had a second SATA drive, would the ATA drive fit there?

Thanks.

Macaholic: I almost address this one to you... I knew you would like it.

I have a die hard Apple friend (like I'm not) who actually get mad at me for doing things like this. He claims it takes away from his PC argument which is: "You spend al that time and effort modifying your PC to get it to work, Macs work right out of the box."

Above the Superdrive? I didn't think of that! Looks like one will be going in there soon.

The Superdrive is the Master and the HDD is set to Slave. I didn't have to fiddle with anything as the drive was in my G4 as a Slave drive. I should mention that on the page, thanks for asking.

This is great! Didn't realise there was an ATA bus in there and was about to go and buy another SATA drive to put in as my 120Gig ATA wouldn't...now it will. Thanks thewitt, great tip.

(couldn't you grind the PCI card away to make it fit the slot?)

You gotta watch out about the heat in this cramped space, but if it fits, what the heck?

Hey, you're more than welcome. Thanks for sharing in the first place. BTW, how's your bandwidth on your webhost? This site might spread through the Mac internet community soon, if you know what I mean.

If it wasn't some old weird PC PCI card (ethernet, I believe) I might have been able to. But that card's slot things are on the wrong side. If you look at it from above, it is on the left side as opposed to the right as modern cards are (or vies versa, I'm not looking at one right now). Either way, it doesn't just 'slot' in there. But as I said, it does 'rest' on the PCI connector and that is good enough for me.

Heat? Not really an issue, the G5 has all those fans in specific places. They do seem to kick in more often than before, but still not very often. Have you seen those case mods that let you put in another 8 drives? Those would really warm things up.

Bandwidth? No worries, that page is all of 350k. Did you check out the counter on the iBook BT hack page? Almost 20,000 hits!

No, but the copy of SerialBox was appreciated.
