As per my earlier posting about the huge new Carbon Computing Mac store in Toronto, I managed to get down to T.O. to take in the grand opening. (Oh no... I might get SARS!)

There was a large crowd in line at 12:00 noon waiting to get in.

I just managed to get a shot from my van as I was driving by as I arrived at 12:05. (Let's just say the engine in my van was pretty warm when I arrived) As another ehMac reader mentioned, it appeared as of last night that no one had moved in yet. The fine folks at Carbon must have pulled an all-nighter to get things ready in time for the Grand Opening. Even the new Carbon Happy guy logo was still being put up.

The new store is really nice and spacious. Ron Paley, owner of Carbon, was kind enough to give me a tour of the whole store. The paint was still drying, so to speak, but most things were in place. The store includes a very big service department, a huge retail area, and will feature lots of other space for classes, training and more in-depth presentations of various Mac based solutions.

The retail store definitely has an "Apple Store" feeling to it, complete with a kids section, lots of pro and consumer solutions, and a large software section.

Business was very brisk the opening day with a lot of customers taking advantage of the grand opening specials.

The Carbon Computing grand opening sale runs until Sunday. For more pictures, click here.

Thanks for the pics. I'll definitely have to make that trip way over to the east end.

Sounds like I better leave the wallet at home.

i went to check it out after work today... I forgot my wallet at home though (probably a good thing). My girlfriend can now find me either there or at vistek.

Thanks for the photos, and thanks to everyone who came to the Grand Opening. A lot of people have worked very hard on building the kind of Mac store they've always wanted to shop at. I think we've got a great start, and there's even more to come.

I would like to say on record that my left hand isn't always affixed to my left ear. I must have been taking a call on my rather tiny cell phone at the time because you've got me in that pose both in a photo and in the movie clip. You should have asked us to say "cheese" or something.

See you all there,
Vince.

Good going, Vince. The new digs are great but I'm sorry to see you leave the old place.
Carbon used to be my nearest reseller now it might as well be in Mars.

I'm the one who was playing with the Cintiq for about an hour on Saturday. I had to drag myself away. LOL
