Startup Times...

Hi gang,

Let's talk startup times. I'm less than pleased that my iBook G4 (1 Ghz) takes about 2.5 to 3 mins to cold boot. Is there anything I can do to speed it up? I've checked Startup items in my prefs and turned off anything I don't need. I also keep the cache pretty clean and all that stuff.

Anything I can do?

Thanks, Phil

Oi. To put it into perspective too: My G3 clamshell starts Panther in under 2 minutes.

Hope MacDoc or anyone else has some insight into this.

Which OS are you running? If you're on Panther, and your iBook is taking that long to load, then there are probably some corrupt data on your disk, so you should repair permissions.

My 1.8 G5 (a) loads up in 30 seconds.

Yeah run Disc First Aid then Onyx to clean up the rest assuming you are on Panther.
It MIGHT be an overfull drive or a failing drive.

You ARE backed up...... of course.

Do you have an Airport Extreme Card installed? Do you think perhaps disabling that may quicken your startup time? Just a thought

I'll try Disk First Aid, but Onyx seems to do more damage to my system than it helps... Weird things used to happen after i'd run Onyx.

Thanks guys!

Hi, I have a very similar iBook with Airport Express installed and my start up is < 1 minute. Something sounds wrong with your start up time, I would have it checked out.

Well, I repaired my Permissions. Still takes the same amount of time to boot. I'm not going to run Onyx becuase i'm pretty sure it does more harm than good to my iBook for some reason. Everytime I run it, something bizarre happens. Anyway, someone mentioned a full HD? I've got 10 gigs left on my 40 gig, but that shouldn't be the problem. I'm confused. Time to check the Apple Support Forums...

Powerbook AL - just under 1 minute.

I was actually timing it today, not related to this thread. Truly sad.
