I'm giving away my Beige G3 to a family member next weekend and would like to get some feedback on what OS I should stick on it first.
Its totally stock except for the 96mgs RAM and she is really only going to surf/email with the thing.Should I amaze her with OSX or provide her with some speed in OS 9.2.2.

I have a Beige G3 with a Ziff upgrade from 233 to 366, It has 192 mb of ram and I have OS 9.2.2 with OS X 10.1.5.

My computer would run better in X with at least 256 mb of ram for iTunes 4.0.1, However OS 9.2.2 runs nice and quick and it uses only 26 mb of ram.(I keep getting unexpected quits while using the I.E. browser with iTunes as a helper app in OSX)
If you are going to install X then put lots of ram in the Beige or keep the system at a minimum

I've installed all the extras into OS X 10.1.5 as well, Like Quicktime Pro 6.3. iTunes 4.0.1, iMovie, iPhoto, etc.(I'll have to get more ram)

You don't mention which beige it is, which will make a big difference in determining which OS to put on it. If it's only a 233 or 266, I'd stay away from OS X and just use 9.1 or 9.2. If it's a 300 or 333 you could use OS X, but it will still be a little slower compared to a faster running model.
I've seen it all, and I've done it all. I just can't remember any of it.

OS X requires a minimum of 128MB, at least Jaguar does.

My vote is to stick to OS 9.2.2 in this case.

In every other case I say OS X or die.

Real queation is ... What software will it be running...

Little point in upgrading to OSX if they are going to use Quark4 or Office98.

If they are interested in New software or iPhoto or iDVD, they should probably look at a new eMac or iMac....

If IE or netscape will do fine then stick with 9.
