Well, in a few scant minutes, my computer will be shut down for it's move to new digs. However, I cannot say how long, as the new place needs to be prepped and the internet needs to be installed and a router needs to be bought & configured before it will be back online again.
I will access ehMac and a few choice places online via the work Macs.
This will mark the first time my computer has been shut down (with the exception of any short-term hardware upgrade such as adding RAM and system reboots after major OS installs or software upgrades) since I first turned it on Dec 3rd, 1999.
It has frozen up in OS X precisely one time (Warcraft III level editor - buggy as hell - forced a hard-nosed reboot). since the Public Beta days.
Total downtime for all issues and upgrades combines to less than 6 hours since that time. It has seen OS 8.6 all the way up to OS X 10.2.5
It has seen 3 complete versions of QuickTime.
It began with a mere 128 MB of RAM and has grown to 512MB.
It has graduated from an ATI Rage Pro 128 to a GeForce 2MX.
It played my very first ever owned DVD "The Mummy"
It welcomed my iPod gracefully into the fold and with not a single hitch since it's arrival in November 2001. They've became fast friends.
It has grown to Pro Keyboard status and 2 Logitech scrolling optical mice have been companions for it's input-output needs.
It survived the Roger's @ Home debacle and the Sympatico Hell in OS 9.
It has successfully completed Unreal Tournaments and seen Deus Ex played 4 times all the way through. It has played a multitude of QuickTime movie trailers and witnessed me lose just about every game of WarCraft III I've ever played.
It witnessed the birth, and several rebirths of ehMac.

And now, for a short time, it will rest, comfortably in it's original packaging for it's move to our new home. As will the monitor and it's only printer, an Epson Stylus Photo 750.
Later people. I have packing to do.
