first on the clatch clichy old boys club issue.
The only reason we seem like a close club is because some of just start posting alot and then we get to know each other, then we become friendlier. Isnt that a good thing? I try to be polite with everyone and reserve the silliness and sarcasm for the regulars.
On the idea of a poll, I dont mind writing you a form and respnse display web page and post it anywhere you want or on my Mac and just leave it turned on for a week or two until we get about 100 to 200 responsses.
Jeac
I found it interesting before that we had many more "readers" than posters.
It does take energy and time to post but it's nice once in a while to know it's not just the "same old crew" who are reading threads and engaging in salmon flinging contests.
Even just dropping in a quick humourous twist or LOL makes the community a bit more varied and populated and is very welcome.

Hmmm it's true Jeac - that "knowing" helps - I physically know or work with several "regulars" here and some are clients so there is a "comfort zone" that on occasion I take liberties with.
But I think you might find that most will go out of their way to bring the casual posters in the threads. Also don't be afraid to divert a thread to ask about somebody or something - especially the Kitchen is designed to be free wheeling just like neighbors in a backyard and the conversations can veer all over the place.
Townhall tends to be a bit more focousd on Mac issues and opinions but Community Centre can be anything you or the rest of us want. I mean the Peter and Dr. G show alone should make you comfortable that fun and silliness has no bounds.
But I do think the idea of a permanent "Who were are/what we do" area will help identify common ground in interests etc.
That's why I find it frustrating - there are some terrific earlier threads about books and movies and hobbies and places to visit that would be nice to re-visit or re-ignite.
Those are the stuff of community building and they fall off so fast sometimes that the casual visitor misses them
That's the area I'd love to see addressed most of all is how to keep some of those "classic threads" available.
Yur honur????
Anyways Jeac thanks for the insight - perhaps we WILL hear more from you.

macdoc, I said I don't always post everyday, but I usually do. I wasn't sure if you may have confused me with adagio who stated he/she is not comfortable posting here. I am generally comfortable. However, I do echo your statements. I participated in a few of the 'all about ehmaclandians' type threads that allow one to get to know others here and I think they are great!
As an aside, I have been waiting for an opportunity like this one to thank you, as it is you who originally directed me here to ehmacland. I had phoned you with a couple of inquiries about the worth of the Mac I wanted to sell and a scanner also, and in the conversation, you suggested ehmac. I have sold my scanner here and purchased a Powerbook, not to mention I have enjoyed myself in the process. That being said, I am off to the clubhouse to visit in front of the fire as it is such a miserably, rainy day. Maybe I'll see you there!
Hey adagio. You are just the kind of person we want around here!!! The updated ehMac will have a much, much better Private Message feature! I'll have to get Mrs. ehMax on the site (she reads here a lot but doesn't post). She has some killer recipies. And I think she's great a dispensing the occasional hug when needed!
I think the cure to the ol' boys club feel is just have a more concerted effort to get new users to post. I have some ideas on that. As stated, I don't want to grow too fast though.
Will you be able to link to specific posts? Will their be the email option on a new post?
Not quite sure on that yet. Don't think so. What email option do you mean?
Good suggestions Macdoc. By the way, you can search through threads right now with the search command at the top of each window. New software will have a neat way of browsing through list of other members and what they're occupation and interests are, were they are from (Option for user to provide this information)
Thanks for all the feedback. Keep it coming.
Regarding a Poll. The new software will support polls as well! Lots of little features. Forums will stay the same but with the addition of one forum. You'll like it.
Hugs to everyone!!!!!!

Yes, there are several provisions and possible ways for that.
Also, the idea of having a seperate URL for the board while testing is good, but it would take A LOT of extra time.
Also, there are some suggestions from an article that jfpoole posted awhile back that had ideas I might implement at least on some forums. I don't agree with everything the article says.

Thanks very much for the offer Macdoc. A lot of time is just spent on FTPing and making sure to chmod the right persmission for folders, uploading graphics and such. I have to make a lot of little tweaking decisions on the fly to the task is best suited to myself. But I really appreciate the offer.
Although it takes awhile I do enjoy it too.
