pm-r - this was our first unpleasant discovery. Using the "Get Info" window on a Pages 4.3 (or earlier) file after the new Pages was installed, setting the file to open with Pages 4.3 and using "Change All..." had no effect. Double-clicking old Pages files opened the new Pages app.
It's almost like Apple was intentionally trying to **** us off....
That behaviour isn't unusual or unique to Pages; I tried messing around with Word, since I have two versions of that installed, and sure enough - same default to the newer version no matter what I did. So…Apple wasn't trying to **** us off with that aspect of things.
My advice is, if you want to download and install Pages 5 to have a look, do so, but don't open any Pages 4.3 docs in it UNLESS you've got a backup version or you've created some specially marked versions of the documents specifically to mess around with. And in order to ensure that you don't do anything to a 4.3 doc by mistake, make Pages 5 into a disk image using Disk Utility (you'll have to stick it in a folder first) and then toss the installed app. That way, any time you want Pages 5 for whatever reason, you simply click on the Disk Image and the app will work, but it will not be the default app for .pages documents or otherwise interfere.
I wish there was some way of selectively turning off the App Store update notifications for things you don't want to update, but alas, there isn't. So, you will have to put up with those for the iWorks '13 apps, unfortunately.
Apple has just updated its Keynote app for iPhone and iPad today with a number of new features including new builds and transition effects.
Version 2.0.1 of the Keynote app includes new transitions including: Blinds, Color Planes, Confetti, Fall, Perspective, Pivot, and Swoosh. The new builds include: Blinds, Fly in, Fly out, Orbital, Pivot, Scale Big, and Swoosh.
Apple’s other iWork iOS apps, Pages and Numbers, also hit version 2.0.1 today with stability improvements and bug fixes.
On the Mac side of things, Apple’s Keynote, Pages, and Numbers apps all get a new customizable toolbar that gives users the ability to have quick access to their most often used tools. The Keynote Mac app also gets the same transitions and builds mentioned above for the iOS version, and Pages and Numbers get a couple other new app-specific features. Full release notes for all apps below...
I believe Jobs really meant what he said and set Apple on that course, which is the direction, for the foreseeable future.
