A lot of the circuitry in our HP Indigo is submerged in mineral oil. Seems to work well. Some of them look a lot like the pictures at the end that link: a circuit board dunked vertically into a tank of oil.
Not sure why either, but I'm glad to see the HDD was left as an external, but maybe no oil could get inside that tiny 'do not cover' hole.
And maybe next time he should use some AC transformer oil that has much better heat transfer cooling capacity than mineral oil, and maybe add a ribbed case just for more cooling.
I would think convection of the oil would cool everything and machine would be completely silent and dust proof.
Might be something in it as it might allow flood proof as well. Oil bathed iPhone/iPad on a mcycle....hmm. makes a seal for the headphones and the power input.
