Yes, and the tiny little lens right beside it which is the camera.
- Open up Photo Booth
- See yourself in Photo Booth
- Point the remote at the camera so you can see yourself in Photo Booth pointing the remote at the computer
- Start pressing buttons on the remote
- Do you see a light blinking from the remote inside the Photo Booth window as you're pressing the buttons?
An apple remote it is.. change the battery. I use mine with XBMC. But it will work with any apple computer with the IR receiver.. and the appleTV. The white remove is what came with most macbooks, imac and ATV1.
It's a little FDK Lithium battery, just popped it out. Cost?

"He's saying to point the remote at your iSight built in webcam lens so that it picks up (or doesn't) the IR signal... the infrared signal is normally invisible to the human eye, but a webcam can pick it up. If you don't see it glowing in your Photo booth window, the battery in the remote is dead."
Yes, it's dead. Not a twitch when I clicked it at Photo Booth.

Oh, interesting. I just went and got the silver remote from the living room that I use for ATV. Duh. I pointed it at my MBook, it opened Front Row, recognized the MBook. Guess I don't need to replace the battery on the old one? Still curious about the cost.

Hmmm... just curious, and I haven't bothered to google, but how, if ever needed, does one get access to and replace the battery????
BTW: When doing the Photo Booth check, I found I needed to point the remote to a dark area to see the actual "flashing light" when pointing and clicking it in Photo Booth.
But "spring loaded" is an understatement as when I pushed the small indent, something moved but nothing else.
So I used by ball point pen and pushed the indent and the tray came flying out and the battery was ejected like a pilot's ejection seat and I think the battery landed somewhere under my desk in it's remotest and darkest regions.
I'll have to find and retrieve it tomorrow and hopefully replace with the correct battery polarity.
