So How do you feel about the lack of an Optical Drive in the new IMac's

So Apple could make them even thinner?. on the rare occasion, I still burn the cd /dvd.

Just curious how others feel.

I removed my super drive so I can have two HDs.. but I did invest in an external case.. as I do 5 times in a year use it.. LOL
Also my wife still buys CDs as we are old school when it comes to supporting the artist.

Since getting my 15" Retina, I have not used my (already had it) external DVD drive for anything at all.

I burn backup disks, iTunes purchases, music CDs and whatnot all the time, so a dvd-less machine is a non starter for me.

Seeing most optical drives have failed for me at some point in the lifespan on my macs, I would be happier having it external. Easier to replace when it fails. It's not like its not an option, it's just a bit clunkier having it as an external.

Tape it to the back of the iMac where no one sees it.

i understand the desire to make portable computers thinner & lighter. there's a obvious logic to it.

i don't agree with it on a desktop. I do admit that the new imac is an aesthetically pleasing design....but considering most people see it from the front "face" 98% of the time (where the thinness is irrelevant) I still don't think the trade off is worth it.

More disturbing still is that with every revision of the imac apple seems to be making user replaceable parts & upgrades increasing difficult.
