Open disk utility and reformat it. I do it that way, so the card doesn't corrupt or fragment over time. Remains nice and quick

If this is a camera memory card I prefer to reformat the card using the camera. This way I get things backed up and the back-up tested before I delete the images.

HOWEVER: occassionally I have in the past provided links to instructions or illustrations. I will not do so in future, in fact I will not be offering helpful advice for free just to have my words pirated until the sleazy ad linking desists. I will, however, answer PMs.

Why screw with 'PC format' on a Mac when the camera does it for you? A totally unnecessary extra step.
My point was if its already in your computer, might as well - less steps then most cameras.
Open disk utility and click erase - yup that can be complicated.
But it was just an idea / tip no more no less.

Definitely if it is for a camera the best way to delete the images on it is by reformatting it in the camera, no ifs, ands or buts.
Not necessarily.
Somehow the formatting is different.
I formatted an SD card on the Mac using the PC formatting option - the card that way would only record 10 minutes of video and that was it.
Tried it several times.
Contacted the vendor of the video camera - they suggested formatting using the camera and voila - full recording (to fill up the SD card) was now possible.
On the Mac the formatting still shows up as FAT but obviously something is different somewhere.
