I don't see how much engineering is required to get new Ivy Bridge CPUs and logic boards into the Mac Pro. The current processors are extremely expensive for the overall performance you get out of these things. An Intel Core-i7 3930K is less than half the price of the Intel Xeon X5670 yet is 50% faster. On the low end, the base Mac Pro's processor is barely faster than the base model iMac's processor.
No wonder hardly anyone wants to buy a Mac Pro right now.

Are you backed up??? If so, why? Psyllium Fibre is not free but will do wonders!
if all you look at is clock speed and all you look at is the base quad core models then you generally won't see the benefit and, truthfully, are probably not the mac pro's target customer.
its akin to people who compare clock speed/hard drive size/factory RAM between a $1000 HP laptop and a $2500 17" macbook pro and focus only on those specs

It is not a workstation processor cut and dry... that's why not. "Faster" is only one part of a working Pro's equation....
In the end though I would not be surprised if Apple's plans are to drop the Pro market altogether... it certainly seems low on their priority list... just as it is with all major manufacturers...
Alas the Pro market is more and more a niche market despite the fact that it has driven innovation in the past... the market has changed and accordingly so have companies priorities.
Yea, I realize the server processors are about reliability as well.
It'd be nice if Apple got into premium gaming machines with these Mac Pros. It's ridiculous how much some of my friends spend on upgrading to the latest and greatest video cards.

The problem with that idea is the latest and greatest games often don't have Mac versions... still waiting for a Mac version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Don't think it is ever going to happen though. Mac sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 must have sucked and it wasn't worth the cost of development.

Well that's cause most of Mac users also have a PS3 or Xbox 360. And instead of waiting many years you can pick up games that are very popular after they've been out awhile used for a fraction of the full retail price!
I know that practice kinda sucks (no used sale moneys goes to the Devs)
And as for new Mac Pros... One cn only sit tight and hope at this point!

Modern Warfare 3 sucks returned that junk. Went back to Blackops.
Couldn't you have bootcamp to run the game if you wanted to?

I have the XBOX. Just prefer to sit in front of 55" instead of at my desk.

I don't know about most, but I'm sure a lot do, personally I don't own a PS3 or Xbox 360. I have used them but I don't like the controllers I prefer a keyboard and mouse. I'm sure I could get used to it but I would just rather have the game on my Mac.
