Hope this doesn't cross into unwanted advertising territory... FWIW, I'm not affiliated in any way with the product or the website - I just think this is pretty cool, and I just might order one. My 8+ month-old is constantly reaching for our iPod or cell phones. Anything with lights and sound...

The Fisher Price iPhone case lets you hand off your precious device to your precious little one without fear. Your device locks securely inside, protecting it from dribbles, drips, drools, and teething.
I bought one for my two year old to go with his iPod Touch. Great little case, except you have to remove the iPod/iPhone to charge it. I thought of getting one of those Powermat cordless chargers in but apparently the phone receiver has to be in contact with the Powermat. I may attempt to hack it at some point to add a charger pass through.
There's also this but same problem:

I have this for our son. It's great but has one flaw, and I've written the manufacturer about it, and that is there is no way to wake up the iDevice in the case if it falls asleep. You have to open the case from the back, remove the iPhone/iPod, and wake it up and put it back again (not convenient!!).

We installed it upside down so the plastic case does NOT cover the home button. In fact, see that round indentation on "top" of the open part of the case? The home button aligns perfectly with that thing.

Yeah, doesn't work for us because as soon as the home button is exposed, he's on it! Sent weird emails to family and friends, would have bought lots of app store stuff if it wasn't for passwords and has rearranged multiple home screens.
My kids have lots of toys they enjoy playing with, but there are some great educational games available for iOS like Monkey Preschool Lunchbox. Watching a two year old interact with technology is amazing. There are some digitized old school toys too like Fisher Price's See & Say and the talking telephone. It's more convenient to have one iPod Touch than to stuff a car with all these toys. although he still has a bucket of toys he likes to tote around.
